Hey, so I re-planned this story and found it easier to begin from here with this as more of a prologue than a chapter, which is why it's so short. This story is planned to run from the end of 'Twilight', through to Victoria's death in Eclipse and so should therefore run for awhile, currently about 25-30 chapters, although that is liable to change.
Disclaimer - much as it saddens me to admit, Stephenie Meyer is the genius behind the books we all love so much, not yours truly. :(
Enjoy!
Chapter One – The End
It had never crossed my mind that James would be lost to me. I was not naïve enough to think that he would never be taken from me but today, I thought, would be safe. James, a hunter, with one fragile little girl in his grasp could not be beaten, surely? But after I had sat in my hotel room near James' chosen spot until nightfall, I grew restless and left to find him. As soon as I left the front door of the hotel, I had been assaulted by many of the different smells that this new place had to offer: the damp in the air, the scorched grass at my feet, the heat shimmering off the asphalt. But underlying all these scents, and many more, was something so pungent that I couldn't help but gag, one hand to my mouth as a sense of unease more profound than I thought possible chilled my cold-dead body.
An almost physical tendril of smoke, carried on the breeze with a careful delicacy that was too gentle for the blow it dealt me, seemed to wrap itself around me, choking me, clouding my head with a flurry of emotions so that I staggered, helpless, buffeted by the onslaught. Forefront in my mind, unbidden and almost shameful in its selfishness, was the fact that I had now gone from having two ancient powers as my back-up, and no I was alone once more to fend for myself; my survival instincts were cause for these thoughts. Second was a genuine sorrow for the loss of my companions, for Laurent would no longer stay with just me at his side, and with that thought came a bitterness that swept my mind clear of distractions and forced me to my feet.
I headed around to the back of the building and quickly drove through the band of trees that surrounded it, blocking it from the road, and in a matter of moments was next to the road, the roar of the cars deafening as they passed. I slowed down, my pace a fast sprint to any observers yet painfully slow to my hectic mind and focused on the corner that was bathed in blue and red flashes, the wailing sirens getting ever louder as I got closer until the sound was over-powering, filling my head with rhythmic screams as I held fistfuls of my hair, the fire licking the edges of the building stabbing at my eyes and blinding me with an unfamiliar white-hot rage, James' voice hammering just on the edge of hearing for revenge.
So? Please review and let me know how it went.
I don't normally spend so much time with my descriptions but I enjoyed it and would like to know what everyone else thinks
Thanks!
