Killing Lonliness
The air seemed stale on this particularly foggy day. Cain Hargreaves was invited to a party and dispite complaints, he went alone. His faithful manservant, Riff, couldn't really bare not knowing what his lord was doing or if he would be okay. It was in his nature to worry for him but as of late, he has been feeling something else for his master. He could never say it infront of anyone else, oh heavens no, not if he wanted to be put away until he died all alone. So he painful kept his mouth shut and his heart bleeding, not knowing what his master felt about him or if he could tell that the manservant had something more than just respect for him.
He didn't care if he had a romantic life or not, he was just happy tieing his shoes and bringing him tea in the mornings. These would be considered small things but he felt happy doing them for his beloved master. They went together everywhere, his lord had very trusted people in his heart and Riff was one of the few. What could explain what made his lord go alone to a party where anyone from Delilah or just some drunken noble could hurt him, was beyond Riff's mind and as he did his chores alone, he only worried and prayed that his master would come back in one piece and breathing.
It was almost midnight and Riff still hadn't calmed down. Maryweather was watching him now and then but she only seemed to be worried about the health of her brother's manservant's health. She occasionally went up to him and they held a light conversation but this still didn't ease any tension going on in Riff's heart. The young girl could tell and she would leave him alone when he asked and he just sat in the luxurious living room, waiting for Cain to come home. Thats when he laughed at himself, he was acting like a dog waiting for it's master to come home. He couldn't care now about what he was acting like, he only cared about his Lord.
An hour of waiting proved to bring bearing fruit when the door creaked open and the man in question returned home.
"How was your party, Lord Cain?" Riff asked politely and Cain had almost jumped, not noticing him in the room at first.
"Riff, you scared me. The party was distasteful as expected. Why are you up so late?" Cain asked him, recomposing himself and the manservant gave him a worried smile.
"I wasn't sleepy and I wanted to make sure you came home." Riff replied and Cain returned a smile to him, trying to ease the man.
"You really didn't need to do that you know." Cain went over to him and put a hand on his shoulder.
"I was worried about Delilah members coming after you my lord." Riff replied as Cain looked at him with his beautiful golden green eyes.
"Well, next time, I'll bring you along to the next party." Cain replied as he began to walk towards the door leading to another hallway.
"My lord, I have something to tell you." Riff called after him and Cain stopped and turned to him.
"What is it?" Cain asked and Riff approached him, his mind set on confessing the truth.
"I love you m'lord." Riff sealed with a kiss on the lips, his feelings freed from its tormenting cage.
"I love you too." A whisper in Riff's ear danced and the two embraced in the night.
The morning after, Cain and Riff pretended that nothing happened last night after he got home. But behind closed doors, the world was thiers and nothing worried them. Even if someone had commited suicide at the party by ways of a rifle to the head, it didn't bother Cain nonetheless with Riff around. The victim was an old family friend and even if the bits of brain and the blood every didn't make Cain sick right now. He was in his own little world with his manservant, killing lonliness with thier passionate love.
