That night was a strange one. It was certainly like no other.
Leafpaw had been sleeping in the medicine cat's den next to Cinderpelt. Just like she always did, every night. But this night, she was visited by a dream.
Leafpaw was in an unusual place. She looked around, and saw that she was in a field- full of all the herbs a medicine cat would need, along with beautiful flowers and perfect green grass. The sky was dark, but gorgeous. Then, she came.
A beautiful she-cat, a tortoiseshell, emerged from the clearing. She smelled ever so wonderful, and finally it came to Leafpaw. This was the great Spottedleaf, who had died when her father was just an apprentice, no younger then she was. " Hello Leafpaw." she mused, nodding her head with respect. " Spottedleaf? Is that you?" The former Thunderclan cat chuckled. " Yes, it's me. You have never met me, but I watch over you, and your ambitious sister Squirrelpaw. And your father.." Leafpaw detected sadness in her voice as it trailed off. " Leafpaw, you will become a wonderful medicine cat, and you will do many great things. I think of you as my daughter, you were just like me. And sometimes...I wish you were." she said softly. " Good luck, Leafpaw." and with that, she disappeared. " Spottedleaf, wait!" cried Leafpaw. It was too late. She was gone.
Leafpaw woke up with a flash. " Leafpaw..." It was Cinderpelt. " Oh, h..hey Cinderpelt. I'm so sorry...dream.." she murmured. " So I see. Starclan sent you a message?" Leafpaw nodded. " I guess so, but why?" Cinderpelt circled her apprentice. " What did you see?" Leafpaw struggled to remember. " Oh yes...I saw.." then, she lowered her voice. " Spottedleaf." Cinderpelt looked at her. " Ah, you must be a very lucky cat." she teased, licking her shoulder. " Now, get back to work, Leafpaw. We have a lot to do today."
