Gardenia visits the Old Chateau
Gardenia was standing in front of Eterna Forest's Old Chateau. She was shivering, just as usual. This mansion had always been a source of most of her fears, and she couldn't stand anything that reminded her of the scary stories people would tell her in her childhood. But she had to fight the pokémons that lived in there; she was willing to do it for the sake of her city, Eterna. She was its Gym Leader and felt responsible for Eterna's people. Gardenia made herself calm down, took a deep breath, and when her body regained its steadiness, she walked toward the front door of the abandoned mansion. "What could happen to me?" she wondered as she entered the Old Chateau. "The hell with it, I won't be scared."
The Old Chateau was a dark place that smelled musty and almost tasted like dust, and there were pokémons statues that gave Gardenia the feeling they were staring at her. She was trying to observe the inside of the Old Chateau and in fact, she noticed that the statues represented pokémons that didn't exist anymore; but despite all of her attempts to stand back from her fear and analyze the place she was visiting, her racing pulse was overwhelming her. She was always looking around herself to make sure nothing could surprise her. She saw a door in front of her and opened it. It was a dining room's door. There was a very long table on which there still were plates and glasses. And there was still that musty smell, except this time there was also the smell of moldy cake. A man's shadow moved on the wall. Gardenia started shivering and walked out of the room. "Maybe it was my shadow, or a pokémon's shadow," she thought.
Once she was back in the entrance hall, Gardenia saw two stairways at two opposite sides of the door she had just crossed and decided to take the one that was on her left side. She started climbing the stairs, walking slowly and carefully on the squeaky steps that appeared to be ready to snap at anytime. Then, she arrived in a hall where there were several doors. She opened one of them and entered the room. There was a bed, a television, a trashcan, a bookshelf, and a painting of a violet-skinned person, whose only features that could be seen was its eyes, and whose gaze seemed to follow Gardenia's every movements.
Gardenia's whole body was now violently shaking, she felt like somebody was going to pop out of the painting. She turned around and saw a young brown-haired and white-clothed girl floating in the air. The young girl's eyes widened and she flew away from Gardenia. The sight of the ghost had petrified the Gym Leader, and made her too scared to even scream. She kept staring at the direction the ghost-girl had taken. Suddenly, she heard an old man's voice whisper, "Anna …".
She froze and, after having staggered for a few meters, ran out of the abandoned mansion as fast she could. She crossed the rest of Eterna Forest, headed back to her hometown, Eterna City, ran inside her house, and slammed the door behind her.
The poor frightened Gym Leader was out of breath, feeling dizzy from all the emotion she had been through in the last fifteen minutes. Her hands were still shaking and she kept hearing the old man's voice in her mind again and again.
