Numb.
He was… aware to how numb he felt.
His whole body felt heavy and sluggish, on the border of being asleep yet awake at the same time. He had few experiences of these before. Sometimes battles went the wrong way and he got the hard end of it. It was never a good idea to stay down for long. When there was a battle going on, he needed to give it his all and get back in the fight.
He gave a groan, sluggishly moving his arms. They felt heavy. A bad sign to say that he was out for a long time. A couple of hours if he had to guess. He dully noted how his arms had a tingling sensation in them as he picked himself up.
It must have been a rough fight. He place a hand against his head, shaking it. He was a little dizzy, but nothing to worrying. Starfire's going to be so worried if I've been out for so long.
It was then that he realized two important things. The first being was that he was on the ground. A solid concert ground that was cold and unforgiving. Second being was that when he looked around, he was in room. Not out on a battlefield, not waking up in the T Tower's medical ward, but in a small room on the floor in dime darkness with a light bulb above him on its last whim.
This had warning signs all over.
With quick reflex, Robin was on his feet, taking out his staff. Good, his still had his weapons. And he was still standing. So he could mark out that whatever happened, he at least had some protection.
Still, it didn't give him to any clue to where or how he got here. Wherever here was and where exactly he was at was a question he could solve later. For now, there was why, when, and what he was doing. He thought back to his recent memories, hoping to find a clue to his current predicament. His mind was still in a blur however, so no matter how hard he tried, nothing came to mind.
"Well this is just great." He huffed. He had no clue to what had happened or how long he had been here, though judging how stiff he felt, a few hours maybe? It didn't matter. He had to find out what was going on first.
The room had a door, which was surprisingly unlocked. What was not so surprising was that when he stepped out of the room, he was in a hallway. Okay, so he was still trapped in a way. Looking down to either end, he couldn't see where each path led. It was too dark to see clearly and the only light there was came from the room.
Robin frowned. By what he could manage to see, the looks of the floor, walls and ceiling suggested that he was in some sort of stone building. The structure was made out of solid concrete, with a few wooden beams along the wall that gave him the impression of a well smoothed out mine.
"This just got interesting."
Stepping out, he looked at either path, electing to go down one and just follow it till it ended somewhere he could best identify his situation. The more he stepped away from his only source of light, the deeper the darkness became. And once the darkness had swallowed the light behind him, he took out a small flashlight from his belt, clicking it on and lighting a small path before him.
He didn't know how long he walked for. His T-Communicator was gone, so that dashed any chance for him to call for help. He was more certain than ever that he had been kidnapped and being held against his will. But what was his captor's game? What was the point in putting him in a room he could escape from and walk along so freely?
He didn't dwell on those questions very long when a door caught his vision. Just like before, it was unlocked, but this time, it led to a large room. It still didn't have the best lighting, but it was better than the room he woke up in. Enough for him to look around.
The first thought that came to mind was a storage room. It was large enough to be one, almost as be as the living room back at the T tower, only it had large wooden crates, metal boxes with thick bindings and chains hanging from the ceiling. The room felt abandoned in time, with layers of dust on dust coating everything.
As he looked around, a distinct sense of emptiness feel upon the boy wonder. This place. It's almost like the ruined church Raven was hiding in. He looked up at the chains. How long has it been since anyone has been in here?
He bent down next to a create, wiping away the thick dust. His glove was a deep grey as he pulled away and looked at it. He stared at it a moment before standing up and looked around.
That's when his eyes spotted it.
On top of a metal box, sitting in the center of the room, was a brightly colored small box. It's striking orange stood out in the darkness, and for a brief moment Robin wondered how he could have missed it in the first place.
Taking cautious steps, he went over and picked the small box up. He shook it a bit, listening carefully before opening it. To his somewhat reluctant surprise, all that was inside was a handheld tape recorder and a piece of paper that had the words LISTEN TO ME on it. Having nothing else to lose and curious, he took out the recorder and pressed the play button.
"Greetings friend! I hope you had a nice nap, because I fear it may as well been the last decent sleep you'll get for a while. Now due to some circumstances, I would have come down there and greeted you myself but, well, that wasn't the choice in this case. You see, the reason why you are here is because I need your help. There's been some… trouble. I'll explain it better on the upper levels. Just go through the big metal door with the S symbol on it and take the elevator up to level C. We can talk there."
The record ended. Robin was at a loss. Trouble? What trouble was the man talking about? And why couldn't he meet him down here? Why was he here?
"Whatever the case, I don't like this." He huffed, tossing the record away. "I need answers." He scanned the room till he found the door, pushing it open and finding an old model elevator waiting for him. A rusty, old, worn down elevator.
Robin looked at the old thing with unease, pulling its gate open only to jump back as it snapped off its hinges and fell with a loud clang on the floor. More unease, he opened the doors to the elevator and stepped in with high caution, poking the floor with his staff to make sure it didn't give way. Once in, he pressed the button for level C, holding onto the walls as the old elevator ascended upwards.
