Taking place on the flight to Midgar after Rufus received the message that his father is dead.
And, as usual, I don't own any of the characters, nor am I making any money with this story. So, please, don't sue me (it really wouldn't be worth the effort).
Beyond death
"So, the old man's gotten himself killed, has he?" Studying the landscape that was passing on the other side of the glass panel.
"ShinRa meant everything to him." He turned around, folding his arms in front of his breast. "He made ShinRa the world's most powerful company. The world's government with him as the sovereign. ShinRa meant more to him than his own blood." A smile crept over his lips. "Do you know why I exist? So his dream will continue to greatness after his death. But I will not just do as father wished me to do. I will not just continue my father's noble dream." He flicked his hair back.
"Neither will I just remodel this company. It would still be father's, nourished by his ideas and by his mako-generators, no matter what I do. - I won't have that. I will do something myself."
He paused, his ice-blue eyes glittered as he turned to Tseng.
"I will take ShinRa down. Brick by brick. Beyond even the idea of rebuilding. By the cost of the family's honour. By the cost of the family's good name. By the cost of my own blood." His eyes were set, determined, the mouth drawn into a thin line. "I will destroy everything my father ever lived for."
A smile.
"I will not waste the money, I will not mismanage the company. That I can't do. That I am not meant to do. That would be too easy. And not efficient enough."
Pause, his eyes were trailing over Midgar below them.
"Every hero in history who lived long enough to rule became a tyrant. – I will take the shortcut."
A small smile.
"I will rule the world with fear."
I always thought Rufus a bit too smart just to want to rule the world with fear. So, I hope you enjoyed it.
I'm not a native speaker, so I would be glad if you could tell me about mistakes (or other ways to improve my English). Though reviews in general would be very much appreciated.
