This is a prologue of how it began for Kai, but the next chapter should get into how really emotionless Kai is. I've always admired how Kai has held his emotions and is usually in control. The power of Kai's true emotions surging out of him is wonderful to me and so I wish to show him as truly emotionless. Takao will surely find a way to return Kai's humanity.
I'm not sure how much you guys will like it in comparison to me, but I'm enjoying writing a page everyday. Depending on the popularity, I might delete this. Only reviews can save this! if I don't get enough reviews, I will remove this and try again when I've completed the story.
Every chapter will be about this long due to the fact that I fill only a page per day that passes Kai.
This will turn out to be a sort of yaoi between Takao and Kai, but not for a while.
Please enjoy this very different fanfic.

Life and Death

I had never grown up with humans. As far as I knew I was born a few minutes ago. Black Dranzer, my guardian, awakened me.

Kai, you are the warrior of the true Dranzer. The spirit of the pure fire bird rests within you and your duty is to protect it. I will teach you to fight and although you have the shape a feeble human, you have no humanity in you. No emotions will get in your way; that is your strength. Now prepare yourself, you have much to learn.

I took in that information quickly, absorbing the only things I knew. My body was trained hard and once a day I would be taught a motion of attack, defense and speed.

The more I trained, the more I could endure and the more I could endure, the more I was taught.

You learn quickly, that's good, but perfecting what is taught needs to be done. You have three days to perfect your three motions and then I will be your opponent.

My guardian had been my opponent before, but he'd never harmed me as he warned me others would. I hadn't expected to be damaged when he came to test me. He didn't hold back his immense strength, but my defeat showed me I had much improving to do. I had been burned by his flames, struck in vital areas, and left in the ashes gasping for air. My body couldn't take another blow.

Rise from the ashes Kai, the phoenix cannot die.

I forced my body up, but that was all I could do. I sat with a bruised arm, but he struck me down with a talon.

Are you prepared to die?

To die? I didn't understand. I didn't know what death was.

For one to live, you must die. You are alive, one of the living, but when your body stops functioning, your heart stops pumping, you no longer live. You will be nothing. You will no longer matter. The earth will slowly devour your body and your mind will be lost in the nothing.

I didn't know what to think of death. It sounded like resting, when I sleep and wake, my body rejuvenated as if I had recovered in mere seconds, but dying was like never waking up.

Kai, you cannot die. A phoenix can never die. As long as you protect Dranzer, he will protect you. If you die, so does Dranzer and he must live. That is of the utmost importance.

The ashes blew over the crusty layers of rock. The ground shifted and the light of magma seeped through.

Dranzer will protect you. Know that he will.

I closed my eyes, resting, searching. Warmth emerged from me, not from the ground, but from my chest. The ground broke and I was falling. My body felt nothing, but warmth. I would not die.
