From the cauldron the serum glowed a pleasant golden hue. everything was going just as planned for once; the two beings in the room held their breath as their efforts came into fruition, one, then two and the thick liquid began to bubble into a boil, then the smoke, blue and green were filled with panic. In a panic small hands swirled and twirled in a fruitless attempt to regain control as smoke rolled out of the alchemist's cauldron, both of them knew all hope was lost and a string of less than gentlemanly words were spat from the man behind the young boy.
The shop was a goner, that was for sure, large blue eyes looked timidly at his older mentor and partner, "It was close right? ...Arthur?" He asked in an effort to affirm the mana was willing to forgive yet another botched elixir. The smoke streaming from the now open door to the workshop did nothing to alleviate his fears.
Forest green eyes locked on sky blue full of agitation before it abided into a softer look of a teacher to a student. " The nectar was added a bit too soon, but that attempt was better than the others at least... " He pat Alfred's head giving a sigh. "Next time." He mumbled letting the stress of the botched attempt be alleviated by the sun's rays.
A shadow fell onto Arthur without opening his eyes he already could sense the annoyance he would soon experience. He opened his eyes to another mana with shoulder length blond hair and beard. The smug smile stretching across his face was already leading to a migraine.
While the smoke was now long gone the smell was not and the fire mana could no longer contain himself, "Well now, what happened here, hmm? Another elixir down the drain?" Francis asked Arthur pointedly.
"I believe you drink too much wine, otherwise why the bloody hell would you ask?" The nature mana retorted in a tone that didn't match his words. The reply was drowned out by thoughts of how the other mana's accent sounded like he had spit caught in the back of his throat, and whether he could ever manage to get Alfred to synthesize a half decent tea.
"Better luck next time." A whisper came from behind a bag of bread before another head of blonde peeked from behind it with a small smile, his violet eyes fell onto his older brother who was more preoccupied with climbing the tree next to the workshop than his fifth failed synthesis in a month.
A thud from drew Arthur's attention to Alfred who had fallen from it and was sure to have a nice lump forming in the coming minutes. Seeing the fire ignite he spoke up before a battle that would surely last hours began. "Come now, it's time for lunch." he told young teen as he stood from the step. He smiled full contentment at the boys grumbles. They'd eat a nice lunch under the nefarious tree and clean up the shop, while he could take or leave the bastard of a fire mana he was happy. The day after would be filled with the same everyday disasters as those he'd experienced for the past eight years and life would go on, and he thought a silent prayer that life would continue like this to whatever being controlled the threads of fate.
