Just a short songfic

AN: This follows the last moments of Jack set to Linkin Park's 'Shadow of the Day' tear

oh yeah, and I own nothing!!

Shadow of the Day

Running is one of the last things I remembered. My feet hitting the tarmac and deep breaths drawing ice shards into my lungs. I held the haphazardly made snowball firmly in my hand, the packed ice numbing my fingers.

I close both locks below the window

I close both blinds and turn away

Sometimes solutions aren't so simple

Sometimes goodbye's the only way

The first bullet struck me in the right shoulder and I fell to my knees. The snowball slipped from my fingers, exploding on ground, forgotten.

And the sun will set for you

The sun will set for you

And the Shadow of the Day

Will embrace the world in gray

And the sun will set for you

I screamed till my throat was hoarse. The pain was excruciating. Things seemed to be moving in slow motion as I tried desperately to drag my broken body off the road. Bullets were flying everywhere, whirring around me like a great swarm of angry hornets. I collapsed on my back in a pile of gray slush.

In cards and flowers on the window

Your friends all plead for you to stay

Sometimes beginnings aren't so simple

Sometimes goodbyes the only way

The snow soaked through my clothes, seeping into my skin like some insidious cancer. I looked upwards, watching the dirty clouds make their slow pilgrimage across the bleak, gray sky. Suddenly, my brothers were by my side, shouting hollow words of encouragement and blind optimism.

And the sun will set for you

The sun will set for you

And the Shadow of the Day

Will embrace the world in gray

And the sun will set for you

I tried to speak, to say I was sorry, that everything was going to be alright.. anything, but my lungs were filling up with liquid and all I managed was a sick gurgle. Warm blood trickled down my chin as I grimaced.

And the Shadow of the Day

Will embrace the world in gray

And the sun will set for you

Everything's so cold now and I feel like I'm viewing the world through a dark tunnel. Bobby's still shouting at me but I can no longer distinguish the words.

I know I can't hold on any more.

I managed a final smile.

Angel, Jeremiah… Bobby, I'm so sorry

And the Shadow of the Day

Will embrace the world in gray

And the sun will set for you
