"Bleeding from a leg wound or electrocution by force field?"
Peeta Mellark brushed his golden curls out of his eyes and yawned silently. "What?" he asked, intelligently, pressing the phone closer to his ear.
"You have to pick one," the exasperated female voice on the other end insisted. "Bleeding from a leg wound or electrocution by force field."
He smirked as he heard the impatience in his best friend's voice. "Well, why would I be bleeding from a leg wound? And for that matter, when would I ever be near a force field?" he asked, quietly. "Your choices are invalid. They have to be plausible."
"I cut you in the leg because you're a stubborn and sarcastic son of a bitch," the voice replied, irritation evident. "Or I toss you into a force field for being stubborn and a wiseass."
He laughed quietly. "Fine, electrocution by force field. Faster, less painful," he answered. "You want to come up?"
"Is Delly there?"
He glanced at the curvy blonde beside him. "Yeah," he said.
"Then no thank you." Pause. "How is that going, by the way?"
Peeta glanced at the sleeping figure next to him again. "I think I'm gonna break up with her," he whispered guiltily. "She's nice and all but she's...too perky. I feel like the Grinch with her."
"Poor Delly. But congratulations on describing someone as perky without meaning her tits."
"Oh, I mean those too. But that isn't exactly a bad thing is it?" he responded cheekily. "Hey, why are we whispering?"
"You're a pig," came the reply on the other end of the line. "There's a guy in here."
"Then you should call the cops," he joked. "No, wait. Katniss Everdeen, the relationship-hater, has a man in her bed?"
He could almost hear her eyes roll as she replied. "And just because I slept with him, doesn't mean we have a relationship. In my opinion, this is better than what you do anyway."
"Than what I do?" he asked, feigning offense. "And what, pray tell, do I do that is so much worse than your one night stand, Katniss?"
She huffed audibly. "You make women fall for you, sleep with them, then dump them for the most inane reasons," she replied. "At least with a one night stand, there's no pretense. Both parties know that it's just one night."
He shook his head and sighed. "This is way too heavy for a 2 am discussion," he said, stifling a yawn. "Oh by the way, good job doll. Cleared out the cobwebs, didn't we?"
"Screw you, Mellark. It hasn't been that long."
"Well, how long has it been?"
"It's only been…six…months," she replied. She stifled a grin. "Okay, maybe I did need to clear cobwebs."
"Like I said, good job, doll. You sure you don't want to come up?"
"No, it's fine. I'll see you tonight, okay?"
Peeta yawned and closed his eyes. "Yeah, see you doll. Goodnight."
