A.N. This is my first fanfiction of The Royal, my take on how Jill may cope (or not cope) if Gordon had died at the end of the last episode.

Very short chapter to begin, hopefully the rest will be longer!

Please read and review!

"You'll be alright, you'll see! I love you"

"I love you too"

*ding dong*

The sound of the doorbell triggered a long and loud series of cries from baby Aisling.

"Oh for god sake" Jill sighed as she made her way to the front door. She sighed again, heavier this time as she struggled to unlock the door with her trembling hands.

"Lizzie!" Jill was surprised by her unexpected visitor.

"Thought I'd come and see how you are!" Lizzie chirped.

"That's very kind of you Lizzie, thank you. Come in!" Jill responded, trying to hide just how unstable she was.

"It isn't the same at work without you and…" Lizzie stopped.

"It's ok, you can say his name"

"Doctor Ormerod…" she spoke softly, watching as Jill bowed her head.

"Are you ok doctor? You looked quite surprised to see me!"

"It's just, I'm expecting the funeral directors any time soon"

"Oh, I'll leave you to it then!"

"No it's fine! Actually, can you stay? Please? I don't think I can do this on my own" Jill begged as she started to tear up.

"Hey don't be daft! Of course I'll stay!" Lizzie smiled warmly. Jill managed a weak smile, possibly the weakest smile you'd ever see, but a smile none the less.

It had been nearly two weeks since Gordon was killed and Jill was finding it harder to cope. Every day became more of a struggle. Having to juggle being a single parent to four children, all under 10, along with a stressful and demanding job and no one to lean on. No one to hold her at the end of a tough day. The only person who could ever comfort Jill was her beloved husband and soul-mate. But now he was gone.

Jill sat down on the sofa, Lizzie joining her swiftly. All Gordon's things were exactly how he'd left them before he died. His clothes still folded neatly on the bedroom chair, his book on the coffee table, the page marked by a letter. A letter Jill hadn't noticed before.

Nervously, Jill pulled out the letter. It was from Gordon. He was obviously intending to give it to his wife but regrettably never got the chance.

"I love you so much Jill, more than you'll ever know"

Jill caught sight of this one sentence and instantly burst into tears, dropping the letter on the floor, cradling her head with her hands, sobbing.

Lizzie tried her best to comfort her grieving friend but her all her attempts amounted to nothing.

Jill was falling apart.
