I wake up to the sound of the Fury Siren thick in the air. "Damn it." I curst to myself in bed as the herald hit flat the third day in a row. After it stops I get out of bed as I run my fingers through my fine, blond, short-cropped hair. Today was my shift on the night watch. Every other week the people of this town will let me have a break. This always makes me cherish the days at Fort Westermont when we trained every day to hopefully get the honor of being called a Fury. All the people there, like my squad leader Taitas Merkesh made the barracks feel like home. The barracks was my real home, unlike the small secluded room in the Brightiron Castel. Even the travel tent that the Fury Generals gave to me is more cozy than the stone-walled room I now reside in. Without the large window and my old training bow in place on the wall, this room would be unacceptable.
Other than that I don't mind living here at all. To sit on top of the castle walls and kill the nocturnal monsters is joyous. Spiders are annoying for their ability to climb up shear walls. It is only worth it when 3 or 4 of the monsters try to climb up at once. Only one has ever made its way to the parapet with me, but I quickly dispatched of the giant arachnid with my iron dagger. The green plant-like monstrosity that many call a "creeper" is my favorite. Up close, these thing can be quite deadly, but at a distance they are just target practice. If one of these menaces gets close to the wall, they will explode. One time, a pack of creepers blew up the Southern Corner of the wall, collapsing it entirely. The whole month after that all the night watchers had double lookout. As I climbed the ladder to my post on the Western wall, I heard a deep, husky voice, one that sounded familiar. As soon as I poked my head out of the hatch, I saw the short, muscular man.
"HEY, I KNOW YOU," the man practically yelled as he saw me. He ran over to me and helped me through the hatch door "You're Aldose Darron, my squad leader Taitas Merkesh told me about you!"
I looked at him questionably since my squad leader had never told me about this man. He didn't look familiar, he didn't even look like he was from here with his tan complexion. Just as I was about to ask if we had met before, he interrupted me saying, "We've never met before, but I saw you leaving Fort Westermont, you were walking beside the caravan."
"Yeah…I remember that day," I said as I reminisced about the past.
