The turtleducks always swam the same way. Everyday it was just circles. The predictability of the animals confused the young child greatly. "What if something attacks them?" the child would ask her mother.

"Nothing will," the mother assured her daughter while scattering food to the turtleducks.

"Are you sure?"

The mother gave a low laugh, smiling at her curious child. "Yes, of course. Why do you ask?"

The daughter leaned against the tree, watching the turtleducks. Closing her eyes, the daughter yawned. "They do the same thing everyday. Daddy says that if you do that, your enemies will attack," she told her mother with practiced ease. "Especially in a war."

The smile on the mother's lips faded quickly. "The turtleducks aren't in a war, Azula."

"But the Fire Nation is," Azula replied, not bothering to open her eyes.

Her mother's lips moved into a frown. Turning back to the turtleducks in the pond, she tossed more feed. The animals ate the given food greedily. Azula opened one eye and watched the turtleducks swim. "I don't want to feed them anymore."

Her mother stayed silent as she got up and left. Somehow she wasn't surprised.
