Rey's Surprise

A short little thing i wrote after just watching the Force Awakens.

Rey walked up to the brown cloaked figure that had its back turned to her. The figure near the edge of a cliff past the sloping green hills and the dilapidated path she had traveled up.

Slowly, ever so slowly the figure turned around, hood down, effectively shadowing the upper half of the face.

She held her breath for a second as the person pulled their hood up revealing the one and only missing Luke Skywalker. The last Jedi. The reason for so many things that had come to pass. The one everyone had been desperately searching for so much so that it was infuriating.

Their eyes met.

His own stormy blue locking with her light hazel.

Slinging her weapon over her shoulder she rummaged in her bag for what was rightfully his.

Her hand closed around a cylindrical object and she revealed it, pulling it free from out of her bag and extending her hand out to the missing Jedi, bestowing the precious light saber to its rightful and only true owner.

Their eyes met once again for a longer moment in time.

Luke's stormy blue eyes locking with her hopeful light hazel gaze.

A hint of triumph filled her.

She had final made it. She had found him. Everything would get better now, she just knew it.

The wind howled around them. The turbulent seas sloshed against the rocks. Amid the sky streams of light soaked through the parting clouds and shone upon the land and sea.

It was almost too good to be true. And of course it was.

"Well, wha do you think you're doing here, hmm. I was just about to jump off this cliff here and take a swim with the fishies," Luke motioned to the edge of the cliff behind him, "Why else would i just be standing here at the edge of a steep cliff, hmm. But i gotta say you've got impeccable timing. One minute late and i would be a dead man."

Her mouth fell open.

What the…

"But…" she stuttered.

He strode up to her and abruptly snatched the light saber from her grasp.

Then much to her complete and utter horror he spun and flung it out into the ocean.

Her eye twitched.

"What do you think you're doing!" she exploded.

"Well, what does it look like I'm doing? It's time to take out the trash! That thing was a piece of garbage anyways," he stated contently, dusting off his hands as if he had got a job well done.

All she could do was stare at him. Just stare in wide eyed dis-believement and shock.

"I don't want to be a Jedi anymore. The job's too strenuous," he chuckled, "see how poor Ben or uh Kylo turned out. I sure messed that one up."

"But... That doesn't mean you had to do that," she waved frantically at the ocean.

"I quit. It's as simple as that," he stated smiling widely in an old grandfatherly way. Then looking more closely at her he asked, "By the way, do you have any food, I'm starved." He rubbed his tummy and proceeded to walk straight past her, down the path she came from and heading in the direction of the millennium falcon.

All she could do now was feel great regret.

"What have i gotten myself into?"

Rubbing her head as a migraine came on she followed after Luke' retreating figure that skipped merrily along down the brown dirt stairway.
