Syrup

Ran stared. He couldn't help it. The mess that confronted him was such that he wasn't sure what else to do. "Ken, what on earth have you been eating?"
Ken just beamed at him with a mouth that was surrounded by a brown, sticky substance. Syrup of some kind, Ran guessed. "Pancakes," Ken answered cheerfully.
"That would explain the maple syrup. Your face is covered in it. Go wash up."
"Not just yet," Ken said. "I want to try an experiment. You know, I was helping Omi with his biology homework last night, and apparently, human saliva has enzymes in it that can break down sugars."
"That's interesting," Ran said. "Now hold still, idiot. You're a mess." He quickly grabbed a towel, wet it, and went at Ken's face.
Ken pouted slightly as his face was roughly cleaned. "Aw... that's cheating."
Ran finished, tossed the towel aside, and inspected his handiwork, taking Ken's face in his hands. He leaned in close, and then abruptly planted his mouth firmly on Ken's. "You know," he said, violet eyes gleaming wickedly as he leaned back again a moment later, "if you wanted me to kiss you so badly, you could have just asked."
