Our battle
The war was far from over
Even when the Yankees won
We must rebuild our lives now
Until our time is done
The Rebels take their medicine
The Union learns to trust
The freedmen break their shoes in
The leather tough and just
The Confederacy burns no more
Their flame is slowly dying
The nation must recover
Through triumph, toil, and trying
Our money may be out of sorts
Our families broke and blue
But we will never stop hoping
We will just keep pushing through
