Entry for "Transfigurations" at "Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (Challenges and Assignments)"
Now that we are done with the cornerstones of Transfiguration, let's learn about something fun! As many of us may know, Metamorphmagus are wizards and witches who can change their appearances at will without the aid of spells or polyjuice potions like regular witches and wizards would need. Also, it's important to know how very, very rare they are and from what little is known, it seems to have some genetic factor.
For assignment five, write about a Metamorphmagus and how being such effects their lives.
Since the only known Metamorphmagus are Nymphadora and Teddy, if you write about an OC Metamorphmagus, you can receive extra points on your assignment!
Elladora Black was different from other people and had been since the moment of her birth.
The family had always treated her like every other child from the noble house of Black, but Elladora knew about the strange looks they gave her behind her back, how her elder cousins debated if being a Metamorphmagus meant that her blood was not pure any more. The adults were disapproving every bigger change she made about herself, fearing that she could disgrace the family's reputation with one of her transformations, especially after seeing her with some ridiculous appearances she used to extract a cute chuckle from her baby cousin.
But Elladora couldn't care less – she loved being a Metamorphmagus and did not see why there should be anything wrong about it.
She liked how she was different from her brothers and cousins, how she stood out of the mass of Blacks with her ever changing hair – she did not dare to change it fully into colours like royal blue or a emerald green, but she would highlight her typical dark Black hair with streaks coloured emerald when at Hogwarts, because her mother could not get after her for it there.
Even though her family saw her as a freak who was displaced in the perfect bloodline of the Blacks, she did not feel particularly as sad as she should – where her family lacked in the display of affection, her friends stepped in.
Elladora was fairly popular in Hogwarts and had many friends, not only in Slytherin, but also in Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff and being a Metamorphmagus also helped her with her Prefect duties – whenever she found a First Year or another student who was discouraged, was feeling homesick or had any other problems and approached her with them, she would cheer them up with a few odd noses and faces.
She would rejoice every time she made somebody laugh and when her friends told her how much they admired this side of her, how it made her special.
But still she was more than exposed to the derision of her parents, which showed again after Elladora's graduation – shortly after arriving home her father told her that she would not be married to a man from another pureblood family like other young women, only to prevent her from possibly disgracing the name Black with her ridiculous form changes.
It was not like she had not expected something like that and it was not like she had longed to be married to some stranger, but still it did hurt her more than she had thought.
Once again, they showed her that she was not like them, a outcast, that her individuality was unwanted and all she wanted was to escape these insults, these gazes that were widening the gap between her and her family.
And the most preposterous thing was that it all sounded so preposterous. She had a rare ability, something that hardly occurred, but still they were not proud of her. The only thing Elladora hoped for was that they would let her live in peace and that the one scion who would inherit her skill, would not be so unhappy with it like she was after all.
