Diogee was worried about his puppy friend. He had been living with this pack of dogs since he was a puppy. The pack leaders were really big, and they were very nice to him, but their puppies were weird. He had reached his adult size in the year he'd lived with them, but the other puppies were still small. It was weird, but he was especially concerned about the youngest puppy, Milo. He was his best friend, but he sure does attract a lot of trouble, and he's barely grown since they met. Diogee looked over to his puppy friend, he was watching that box with the moving pictures on it, but then his sensitive dog ears picked up the sounds of something unscrewing. He looked, and saw that the screws holding that light thing on the ceiling was coming unscrewed, right above Milo! So, he ran over, grabbed his puppy friend's collar in his teeth and dragged him away, just in time for the thing to fall. Milo screamed, before looking over at Diogee.
"Arf arf arf! Good boy, Diogee!" Milo said, hugging him and scratching him behind his ear. Diogee wagged his tail, he loved it when Milo called him a good boy and gave him scratches. The crash and scream attracted the attention of the female pack leader, Mom, as she was called by the other pack members.
"Arf arf arf arf! Arf arf, Milo?" She kneeled down, checking over her puppy, though she made sure to give Diogee a pet while she was down there.
"Arf arf. Diogee arf arf arf. Arf arf good boy!" Milo gave him scratches again.
"Arf arf? You are a good boy, arf? Good boy, Diogee. Arf arf arf protect Milo?" She cooed at him, giving him even more pets, making his tail wag even more.
Protect Milo? That sounded like a good idea. This small puppy got in trouble all the time, he needs more grown dog looking after him, for his safety. He would protect Milo as long as he could.
Time would pass, and Milo got bigger, slowly, and Diogee learned more. Turns out, Milo is a human puppy, and human dogs grow a lot slower than other dogs. It didn't really surprise Diogee. He saw all the fruits and vegetables they ate. Didn't they know puppies need lots of meat to grow big? Those silly humans. But more so, he saw Milo get smarter and smarter, and more capable. Milo now took care of him like Mom and Dad did when he was puppy, but Diogee still had to watch Milo. Milo was still a puppy after all, but now things were more mutual. Diogee would get Milo out of bad situations, and Milo would give him treats and call him a boy. Milo would take Diogee out to go to the bathroom, and in turn Diogee would make sure Milo was exercised. Milo would tell him to go home, and sometimes he would listen.
Milo might be bigger now, but he was still a puppy. His sister, Sara, had finally reached her adult size, so he was sure Milo would reach his soon. And Milo still need his help. Just the other week, Milo and some others were floating down a raft in the Colorado river, and he had to save them, those silly dogs. Human dogs might be the ruling breed on the planet, but Diogee was surprised about that. Humans don't have good hearing, or smell, and they had almost no survival instincts. Plus the vegetables? Ew. But human dogs are big and have thumbs, so they get to be dominate.
"Diogee! Arf arf arf!" Milo called out, and Diogee ran over and hopped on his lap. "Good boy."
Milo might have gotten big, but he would always protect Milo. That was his job.
Author's Note:
This is just a little fluff drabble I've been think about for a long time, like a year. I'm hoping it'll shake some motivation loose. It's not very good, but it's… cute, I guess?
