The Dead Walk
Disclaimer: I don't own the Living Dead series nor the old gods.
The gods:
Zeus
Ares
Aphrodite
Diane
Hades etc.
Were long dead or at least thought to be. The people of the world grew and soon forgot about them.
The were forgotten but they still led their eternal immortal lives. Just watching. Most gave up there old jobs of helping and or causing problems. But some remained forever faithful in their job.
Hades the god of the underworld continued to watch as the people of earth died. It seemed to him that more and more people died with each passing day, due to some war or disease caused by the advancement of mankind.
Hades was a kind and gentle man who so loved the people of the Earth no matter if they were a sinner or a saint. So he continued to watch as those who died were judged and sent to their eternal resting place, whether it by Tartarus or the Elysian Fields.
---
It happened one day. Hades took notice of the rising number of the dead. They continued to appear, most it seemed to go to Tartarus for one crime or another, while in their midst there is the very rare occasion where a good soul went to the Elysian Fields.
This did not bother Hades because the underworld was vast and could most certainly contain all the souls of the dead.
The sinners were amassing and growing day by day.
Hades watched as Tartarus or Hell as the humans seem to prefer to call it got fuller and fuller.
---
Then it happened, the gates cracked, the dead resisted there eternal punishment and took a stand. Hades stands fascinated as his walls crumble. The souls of the dead seep out. He tries to stop them but it's to much. Finally he gives up. The people of the world no longer know of him, so he retreats to his castle and watches as the souls of the dead return to the land of the living. Forever cursed to hunger for what they once had.
Hades signs and continues to watch as he recalls the worlds one human said to him in passing, "When there is no more room in hell. The dead shall walk the earth."
