Notes from me:

So I'm notoriously bad at updating but I have some additional chapters ready for publishing and this is a relatively short story so I should be regularly updating. Just wanted any followers of me on to know that atm I am not updating my other stories, I was at a different place in my life then and was very emotionally connected with the pairings I wrote about which were closely linked to the relationship I was in at the time. Unfortunately my situation has changed now and I just don't feel comfortable continuing those stories, Hopefully I will do one day.

Additionally I wasn't aware of both Maura and Jane's age so I took a punt, this is just a short chapter, the next chapters will usually be longer.

Disclaimer; I own nothing and nobody :)

'I don't understand' Maura said, her forehead wrinkling with confusion, 'why would you do this for me, it's too much, how did you…?' Uncharacteristically for Maura she allowed her sentences to merge and overlap as she simultaneous tried to look at both Jane and the piece of paper in her hands.

'You only get one 40th birthday Maur,' Jane replied with a small shrug, 'You always said you wanted to go to London and well I didn't know what else to get for you.'

'But its too expensive, I haven't done anything to deserve all this, why would you do this for me?' she repeated her question, this time looking into Jane's eyes as she asked, a gaze so intense as though looking to find the answer herself.

Holding her gaze Jane smiled and spoke softly hoping to help clarify things to Maura, 'You're my best friend, You're a part of my family and you deserve this. It's your 40th birthday and well, from what you've told me no one makes a fuss of your birthdays usually. Stop looking so confused Maura and just be excited, you and me in London, does that not sound fun to you?'

It was true, Maura thought to herself, the whole idea of spending her birthday with Jane anywhere sounded more than fun to her but the prospect of spending it together in London was just amazing. The more Maura thought about it the more excited she became, but, surely this wasn't something that friends usually did for other friends, was it?
