As I stated in the summary this was written in honor of and inspired by the Opening Ceremonies of the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games. (It was also written short-notice so I appologize for any typos/errors) Sort of crackish(?), it's not really my usual type of writing, but the idea occurred to me and I decided "why not?" Please tell me what you think? Thanks!
In the apartment above the Mouri Detective Agency, Kogoro, Ran, and Conan sat in front of the television in the living room. On the screen, the closing montage of the 2012 London Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony was coming to an end.
"I loved the fireworks near the end!" Ran exclaimed happily. "And the way that McCartney-san had the entire stadium singing at the end of the song was amazing too!'
"It would have been a lot more amazing if they'd had Yoko-san sing instead of that old man…" Kogoro grumbled.
"Dad…"Ran deadpanned, "why would they have Okino, Yoko – a Japanese singer – perform at an opening ceremony in London!"
"The Olympics is supposed to be an international event! And nobody is more international that Yoko-san!"
"Yeah, sure, Dad, whatever you say," Ran sighed as she shook her head. She grabbed the remote as commercials began to run and turned off the television. "Overall, though, I think my favorite part was when the Queen jumped out of the helicopter! It's hard to believe anyone would even think to ask her to do that, much less that she would actually agree to it!"
"Please, you don't think they'd actually ask any 86 year old women, much less the Queen of England to jump out of a helicopter and parachute to the ground, do you? It was obviously a stunt double."
Ran sent a pouting glare at her father, "but it's more fun think it really was her! Don't you think so, Conan?"
She turned to her pseudo little brother, who been quite quiet for a while now. He was sitting beside her with his head tilted at an angle that caused the light in the room to reflect off his glasses, preventing her from seeing his eyes. At hearing his name, the boys seemed to shake himself slightly before jumping off of the couch, hands slightly clenched at his sides.
"Conan? Is something wrong?" Ran asked, slightly worried that the boy still hadn't responded.
"I'm boycotting the London Olympics." He finally stated before he began to walk away towards the room he shared with her father.
"What?" Ran blinked. "Why?"
The statement had come out of nowhere. Sure, Conan hadn't been as excited as most of the other kids in his class at his first Olympics (well the first he could remember anyway, since he would only have been around two or three when the Beijing Olympics occurred) but she knew he'd been looking forward to the soccer matches at least – she'd even seen him watching some of the pre-opening-ceremony matches over the last couple days!
For a moment, there was no response. Then, as he reached and opened the door to his and Kogoro's room, he spoke quietly without looking back, in a voice filled with disgust.
"A four and half hour ceremony in the country, the city even, where he lived, that even had a segment devoted to literature and literary characters, and not once did they even mention Sherlock Holmes!"
A slammed door ended the declaration and left the two guardians to stare, bewildered, at door and each other.
THE END
Despite what he said, I still think he'd watch the games, especially (if only) the soccer games, but he's too irritated to think that far ahead right now, lol. I'm not sure if he'd watch the closing ceremonies though :P
Anyway, again, not my usual fair, so I'd appreciate some feedback! Thanks again for reading!
