Twilight/Spike Mother/Son dynamic

Spike awoke with a muffled cry, the events of the day creating and searing nightmares in his mind. He nearly destroyed the town and almost killed the pony he lov…has a crush on.

"Rarity may have said that I'm her hero" he thought, "but that was just to make me feel better. There's no way she can look at me and not think about the fact that I nearly killed her." Spike sighed. He wanted to go and sleep with Twilight. She always keeps the nightmares away.

Spike started to rise, but then dropped back into his bed.

"Twilight wouldn't want me disturbing her. Who could ever love a monster like me?" He tried to get back to sleep, attempting to silence his cries.

"Spike, what's wrong?" said Twilight.

"Oh nothing" he replied, "just had a bad dream."

"What happened?"

"Umm…I dreamt that there were no more gems left in Equestria" Spike replied hesitantly. "Now I know it's just a dream I can go back to sleep a-okay. Need as much rest as I can get." He said before turning away using his blanket as a barrier between him and Twilight.

Other ponies may have left Spike alone, but Twilight knew better. She used her magic to pick him up and put him the bed beside her. She held him before he could get away.

"Everyone's already forgiven you for what happened earlier. Now you need to forgive yourself."

The last vestiges of Spike's control broke as her collapsed into Twilight. Twilight only held him tighter.

"I don't deserve forgiveness."

"Too bad, because you've got it."

"Do you forgive me…Mama?" Spike ended in an almost silent whisper.

"You never needed my forgiveness." Twilight and Spike hugged each other tighter than they had since their move to Ponyville and fell into a comfortable silence.

After a time, Twilight broke the silence.

"It's been a long time since you called me Mama." She said.

"Heh heh, yeah," Spike replied, "Tonight, can you Mama instead of my best friend."

"Oh Spike," Twilight started as she nuzzled him, "I've always been your Mama."
