It didn't work out the way it was supposed to. It was a supposed to be a routine arrest. Nothing was supposed to go wrong. But it went wrong, fast. She'd been cuffing him, hadn't expected him to lash out and hit her. But he did. Not that he got away with it. Her partner smashed his nose in.

He ran, expecting a chase. She chased after him, shouting for back up. Her partner ran after her, yelling at her not to chase him. It all happened so quickly.

The blade came out. It was a serrated knife. It was in her before she could even process what had happened. Her body fell to the ground, comprehending it was in her. Her partner ran to her side.

"Aiden?"

"Chase him. Don't let him get away."

"I need medics! NOW!" he called to random strangers. But it was no use, her eyes had turned glassy and she breathed her last breath, while he was shouting orders.

9:00 PM at Sullivan's

"Aiden Burn was special. She was a great CSI and detective. She didn't deserve to die, she was taken too quickly..." Stella said.

One by one each of her team members reminisced memories of her. It pained them to know she wouldn't walk through those doors and say, "Did someone die?"

3 Days Later

Her burial was hard. Their were many people there to express their sorrow and/or concerns. Not that any of them were having that crap. But one person stood out from the rest. He just stood there watching as her coffin was buried in the soil. Stella walked over and patted him on the back.

"She's in a better place, Hawkes."

"I know she is." He replied. "I love you, Aiden."

At the same time in Heaven

I love you, too, Hawkes.
