Black Star's heart was pounding as he ran through musty alley ways. 'Damn it, if Tsubaki was here I could just kick that /thing's/ ass. And normally I wouldn't need her but this is finally a competent foe!'

He took a sharp turn, his feet splashing up small puddles of muddy water. He searched frantically for dark shadows or crevices to hide in, but the moon was doing a damn good job of illuminating things tonight.

Black Star tried to summon up enough power in him to jump onto a rooftop but without Tsubaki he just couldn't. "Damn" he said under his breath. Suddenly he realized he was at a dead end. He turned, actually scared for the first time in his life. But he would never admit it.

There, standing in front of the boy destined to surpass god was... /it./

A giant seahorse, looming over some of the buildings and floating a foot or so off ground. It turned it's head and bent it's weird body to stare right into Black Star's soul.

It smiled, or it did as much as a seahorse can smile, and it's shiny blue skin glinting in the moonlight. It plopped itself down, rendering escape for Black Star useless.

He closed his eyes and tried to remember that old lesson Sid had tought about sending an urgent soul message to your partner when in need. "Tsubaki, if you can hear me, I need you. I'm... I'm in trouble, okay? Look for a big blue freak in the alleys."

He opened his eyes again to find the hideous beast had not moved a muscle. Suddenly it opened it's mouth and spoke. "Hello Black Star." The voice was not male or female, or even one voice. It was many beings, simply the essence of many coming to one. And while Black Star's soul perception was not high, he felt more than one presence before him.

"Do you know why I am here?" It didn't pause long enough to let the blue haired boy continue. "I am here to eliminate you. See, you have great potential. However you do not have great power. And I must kill you before you do." It's face was curved upwards in a way that made Black Star cringe.

"Oh yeah? Well you're not gonna get me! I'm practically immortal!" Black Star grinned, keeping up his cocky act despite being terrified internally.

"We'll see about that." The seahorse giggled like a little girl and then laughed hysterically like a grown man. It pulled it's tail out from under itself so it was curled in front of it. The edge was razor sharp and shined brightly.

"I'm going to kill you with this." The seahorse said matter of factly, almost bored, as it poised to strike. Black Star thought desperately of anything to do and hopelessly threw a rock at the beast to no avail.

Tsubaki dashed through the streets, pulling her dress up so it wouldn't trip her up. 'Oh god Black Star, what have you gotten yourself into?' She thought to herself. Suddenly she saw it, up ahead, a giant... seahorse?

She climbed up a pipe onto the roofs and sprinted over, only to find the seahorse's tail shoved through Black Star's stomach. "Tch." He said quietly. "You think you can kill me?" He grunted, before falling over.

"Bl... Bl... BLACCCKKKK STTARRRRR!" Tsubaki screamed in anguish. The seahorse tilted it's head slowly. "Welcome dear. You're next"
