The only thing more terrifying than finding the devil; is becoming him. Dean Corso was a back stabbing, deal grubbing basterd of a rare book dealer until he met with the millionaire Satanism freak by the name of Boris Balkan. Balkan presented him with a book; The Nine Gates of the Kingdom of Shadows. Sending Corso on a fruitless attempt to try to decipher the satanic drawings in the book and thus lead him to meet with the lovely and deadly woman of Hell. Her name was never revealed but she protected him as attempt after attempt on his life was made.
It seemed to stop when he confronted Balkan in a castle in France when Balkan had retrieved all of the original nine drawings from the three remaining Nine Gates books. While stuck in the floor, Corso watched on in horror as Balkan preformed the ritual of the book to raise the devil. But something went horribly wrong when Balkan was consumed in flames. The woman told him that the ninth and final drawing was a forgery and it prompted Corso to find the authentic one. After discovering it and its hidden message, Corso returned to the castle and thus opened the ninth gate.
But now an occult book specialist named James Tavern has discovered another 16th Century by the Latin title, Abies Malams Porta, (The Devil's Gate). Now the demonically powered Dean Corso is transversing the threshold from hell to find…the Tenth Gate.
