This is a little something that I am writing for PyroFromHell959; who supplied the idea and is also beta-ing and doing an amazing job might I add. If there are any mistakes they're all mine.

~*PROLOGUE*~

Trust is a gift granted to someone close to you after long periods of time. With some it is easily gained and with others it can be a long drawn battle. In all cases it can be broken; shattered into unrecognizable torrents of hate and uncertainty. It can be broken so badly that it can never again be mended, but one must stay strong and stick with it till the very end.

Trust is a fragile thing, it needs to be nurtured and cared for, protected with all of your being for it could easily slip from your grasp. If you truly care for a person the trust will come.

When trust is broken it can feel like you were stabbed through the heart with a knife; it can feel as though your world as been turned upside down and nothing is in balance anymore, but most of all it can feel as though you've died. When someone you love has broken your trust it can also break your heart.

Ziva was in pain, broken on the inside and stable on the outside. She wondered if Tony knew how much she was hurting. He didn't outwardly hate her; but she knew it was there on the inside, festering like a deep-seated wound and waiting to burst and shower her with loathing. She ached with fear that he would push her out of his life and never let her return. She wished she could take it all back – make things the way they used to be; all smiles and fun loving banter, she missed it and she wished she could have those moments back.

--

It hurt for Tony to look at her. She should have come to him, she should have trusted him with everything but she did neither. He had to push to try and get her to open up but it was still to no avail and in the end he was the one with the broken trust and broken heart. He wondered if she was happy with herself, if that had been her goal all along. He wasn't what he once was, he didn't banter with her any longer he could hardly stand to look at her but that didn't matter anymore. Ziva had broken something sacred and he didn't know if she would ever earn it back.

Betrayal is like a wound, a deep penetrating cut that is spread deep throughout a person, affecting their daily life and their mind. If betrayal is not properly dealt with it can cause scars - to the heart and to the soul; these scars are the hardest to heal and they make it more likely for one to be hurt again.

In order for someone to get over betrayal they must be shown more respect and trust then what had initially been given to them. They must believe that there is a reason for them to forgive the other for their sins; that it would somehow benefit them to let them in again. If all hope is lost and the betrayal is wound to deep the trust may never be returned; and without trust there is no hope for the friendship to blossom further.

The tender wounds of betrayal must be properly cared for - like placing a soothing balm on an irritating itch or bandaging a bleeding wound; it takes time to heal, and tender love to regain one's previous strength.

Betrayal can cause even the strongest of relationships to break apart for it is the hardest of lesion to heal.
