Wow it's been a long time since I've wrote anything. Well, actually this has been written for a long time but I never got around to posting it. It's the first fic I've written that isn't Harry Potter. It's a Raoul/Buri one-shot. So, go easy on me, 'cause it's my first Tortallan fanfic!

Sir Raoul of Goldenlake and Malorie's Peak was usually calm. He had a level head and always kept his cool in a crisis.

So when Kel was summoned to his quarters, she was shocked to find him pacing restlessly and muttering to himself.

Instantly worried, she said, "Sir, what's the mat–"

"Kel! I can't do this! So many things could go wrong. I don't know what I was thinking!" Raoul stopped pacing to look at Kel, panicked.

Kel was having a hard time processing what her former knight master was so stressed out about. "Okay, slow down and tell me what's wrong."

Raoul sat down and put his head in his hands, not responding. Kel frowned, not used to seeing Raoul like this. Suddenly, she knew what he was going on about and laughed. She went to sit next to him.

"Raoul, are you getting cold feet?"

"I'm not nervous, I'm saying that I can't go through with it!" He glared at Kel, frustrated.

Kel, who knew how much Raoul loved and needed Buri, was simply amused by his behaviour.

"Tell me why," she said calmly.

"She'll be ruining her life if she marries me, Kel. I don't know why I proposed in the first place, or why she said yes for that matter. I'm stubborn, outspoken and I'm antisocial at parties for Mithros' sake. No one would want to marry me."

Kel had to shake her head at this nonsense. "Raoul, Buri wants to marry you. She loves you. And you love her. That's all that matters." She hesitated, then patted his back.

He sighed. "I just can't help thinking that after we're married, she'll change her mind."

"That's crazy. This is your nerves talking. Everything is going to be fine. You'll see."

He was silent. He looked sideways at her and she smiled encouragingly. "You think?" he said quietly.

Kel laughed. "I don't think, Raoul, I know. You and Buri are going to be so happy together. And do you realize that she is just as stubborn, outspoken and antisocial at parties as you are? That's why I know it's going to be alright. Everything about you two just fits together."

Raoul smied. "Thanks, Kel."

She smiled back. "So are you going to be okay now? No more panicking?"

He chuckled. "No, I think that's all."

The door to Raoul's study swung open and his betrothed, Buriram Tourakom, burst in.

"Thank god you're here! The priest we wanted for the ceremony can't do it on that day! And they don't have anymore white cakes ready. The cake has to be white, Raoul, it's a wedding! And that's not all! Thayet says that my dress may not be finished in time. There are so many things going wrong. How are we going to get through this?"

All through this speech, Kel had been inching towards the door, not wanting to interrupt Buri. She opened the door.

Raoul took Buri in his arms and kissed the top of her head. "Everything's going to be okay. You know why?"

Kel heard Buri sigh into Raoul's shoulder and say "Why?" in a defeated voice.

"Because I love you."

Buri made a sound that was half a sob, half a laugh. "I love you, too, Raoul."

Kel smiled, looking at the hugging couple. She shut the door behind her as quietly as she could. She knew they would be fine. After all, everything about them just fit. They were perfect for each other.
