Chapter 3

We last left Olive Snook and the pie maker alone in Olive's apartment. It was early in the morning and Ned had just brought her coffee

"Well," said Olive as she plopped onto the couch, "what do you want to talk to me about?"

The pie maker's eyes met hers and he said "Olive I," he paused and stared at his hands. "You what?" Olive asked with a little hesitation. "I want to tell you how I feel about you."

Olive looked up and quickly responded "Ned I know you love Chuck, but I just well you know I have feelings for you and if I'm making you too uncomfortable at work. I can quit or move out either one works for me." Ned grabbed Olive's arm and spoke softly to her "no Olive, I don't love Chuck. I love you." Olive couldn't believe what she was hearing "you what?" she asked with confusion. "I said I love you Olive. I'm sorry about all you've been through, but I need to tell you how I really feel. When I look into your eyes," he grabbed her face softly and raised it so her eyes met his, "I see the brightest colors I've ever seen. And when your arm brushes mine, I get chills all up my spine. And when you laugh, "the pie maker paused to remember Olive Snook's soft giggle, "it brings me joy."

Olive just stared blankly into Ned's face wondering if this all was actually happening. Then she realized it happened, all she ever wanted was to be loved like this and now it was happening.

"Oh Ned I feel the same way." Olive slid closer to the pie maker on the couch and then he leaned in to kiss her. She knew this was meant to be, a love affair between Ned and Olive Snook. She braced herself for the best kiss of her life and soon the pie maker's lips touched hers.

The magical kiss lasted almost three minutes, but when it ended they only started all over again. About five or six minutes later they pulled away from each other, looked into their eyes, and smiled.

"Nothing happened," Ned said with astonishment. "What do you mean nothing happened?!" Olive shot back slightly annoyed, "We just shared the most amazing kiss and you have the nerve to say nothing happened!"

"No Olive, it wasn't about the kiss. The kiss was wonderful." Ned quickly regained Olive's trust. "Oh, then what was it?" Olive asked in her quiet insecure voice.

The pie maker realized he had to tell Olive his secret about bringing things back to life.

"Olive, I have special powers." He wanted to slap himself after saying that and making himself sound stupid. "Yes you do, you have the power to captivate me," Olive said smiling sweetly. "Well thank you," Ned said smiling back, "but that's not the only power I have. You see I can, well sometimes, if I touch things, occasionally these dead things," Ned stammered on until Olive couldn't stand it. "Oh Ned just spit it out!" She said playfully slapping his leg.

"Okay," he paused before revealing the biggest secret of his life, "I can bring things back to life."
