"What shall we name him?" Éomer whispered as Lothíriel nursed their newborn son, who would one day be king.
Lothíriel smiled, "I would have thought you would already have a name."
"There's too many choices," he grumbled. "But I would like to name him after Aragorn."
Lothíriel hummed awhile, her brow creased in concentration. Eventually, she murmured, "Elfwine."
"Beg your pardon?"
"Elfwine. It means Elf-friend."
"I know what it means, but why Elfwine?"
Lothíriel sighed, "I suppose you don't remember all of King Elessar's names. Among all his other names, he's been called Elf-friend."
Realization dawned on Éomer's face. He grinned broadly, declaring, "Then Elfwine shall be his name."
Author's Note: My apologies for a seriously underdeveloped scenario, but I had to get this idea out. I've seen theories where Elfwine was named after Legolas and elves in general, but not after Aragorn. Considering Éomer's close friendship with Aragorn, I wouldn't be surprised if Éomer decided to name his firstborn after Aragorn.
