CHAPTER ONE

we last left the Pie Hole Olive Snook was startled by the pie makers sudden touch of affection and the pie maker was startled by his sudden realization of his feelings for Olive Snook.

Olive ran out the back door as quickly as she could and raced to her apartment. Once she was inside, she slid down the back of the door and started to cry. Digby, the loving dog that belonged to the pie maker, quickly ran to her and started to lick her tears away.

"Thanks Digby. I don't know why I'm crying! I feel like I should be happy, but another part of me feels like what I want is wrong. What do I do?"

Olive looked into Digby's brown eyes longing for some kind of answer, but all the dog could do was lay his head on her lap with love.

Back in the Pie Hole, Ned was trying to control his own emotions. Quickly he went back to making pies, but couldn't keep his mind off Olive for more than a few minutes. Chuck, the girl he thought he loved entered the kitchen and smiled.

"Hey!" she looked around for Olive and noticed she was gone, "where's Olive?"

"Why?!" the pie maker shot back quickly in a nervous manner.

"I just wanted to make sure she was okay that's all. She looked a little upset back there. And you sound upset what's wrong?" She stared into the pie maker's eyes trying to find what was bothering him.

"Nothing. I'm just fine." The pie maker tried to smile to hide his real feelings, but Chuck didn't believe him.

"Really? You're just fine? I don't believe you. Well I'm going to go upstairs and talk to Olive." She turned quickly and walked out of the kitchen and through the front door of the Pie Hole.

Ned stood there hearing the bell ring over and over in his ears. He imagined what would happen when Chuck tried to console Olive. Quickly he shook his head of those thoughts finished up his last pie, and walked over to Emerson Cod.

Back Upstairs

Chuck knocked on Olive's door and heard hysterics turn into sobs and then suddenly all was quiet.

"Who is it?" a soft spoken Olive Snook asked as she leaned against the door she did not wish to open.

"It's just Chuck. Please let me in. I need to make sure you're alright." She looked into the peep hole hoping to make a connection with Olive, but Olive had no intention of letting her in.

"I'm sorry, I can't talk right now. Please go away." She said in between gasps for air due to crying so much.

"Okay, but when you need someone to talk to, I'll be here." Then Chuck walked back down the stairs and ventured into town.

The words Chuck just spoke kept repeating in Olive's head. "I'll be here. I'll be here. I'll be here." Olive began to weep once more. Those were words that she longed the pie maker to speak to her whenever she needed comforting, but this time she wasn't sure she really did want to hear it from him.
