Sasuke lay on the bed in a hotel room from several lands away from home. Missing his family he dialed Sakura's phone, he just had to hear her voice. She laughed as she answered the phone, when he heard Sarada's voice laughing, he quickly wiped his eyes and almost choked a sob as her voice came onto the phone.
"Daddy when are you coming home?" She asked, he took a deep breath and told her exactly what he felt, hoping she wouldn't cry when he told her. It was always something that helped him when he was apart from Sakura.
"I'm already there Sarada. In the sunshine through your hair, the shadow on the ground, the whisper in the wind, your imaginary friend and I will be home as soon as possible. I promise" he said, hearing her sniffle almost broke his heart. Damn Naruto for sending him to the land of snow, so far from his family so many times.
Sakura took the phone as Sarada left to get ready for bed. "I really miss you Sasuke, Sarada hardly knows you and to make it worse, the twins Fugaku and Mikoto will be born soon and you won't be here" she said, holding back cries. Sasuke clenched his hand tightly, he wished he could hold her and his daughter, comfort them but the damn mission Naruto sent him on was of utmost importance.
He told her to lay on the bed and turn out the light. Once she did, he smiled before telling her how he felt for her. "don't make a sound Sakura, I am the beat in your heart, the moonlight shining down, the whisper in the wind and I will be there before the twins are born. I do not care if I have to tell the dobe screw the mission, my family is first." He heard her laugh slightly before rustling sheets were heard.
"Still can't sleep when I am not there Sakura?" He heard her mumble in embarrassment, he decided that was it, the following morning he was returning home. After saying good night, he hung up and got some sleep. The following morning he sent a messenger hawk ahead with a letter stating he was turning back for home. He was at the gates within a few weeks and saw Sarada sitting at the bench, he whistled lowly and watched her face light up before she ran to him and jumped on him.
Sasuke knew that his family needed him more than the success of the stupid mission. Sasuke informed Naruto his days of anbu captain were done. He was lowering his status as a regular shinobi for the sake of being close to his family, Naruto understood and agreed. Sasuke walked home with Sarada and snuck in behind Sakura before whirling her around.
"SASUKE!" she said before hugging him tightly. "Baby I missed you so much" she said as he held her close. He whispered 3 words in her ear that had her crying. 'I'm home now'
