So I've had this sitting on my hard drive for a really long time with no intents of posting it. But then I did. So yeah. It's not very good. But oh well. :)
Miley and Nick were at Miley's house in Tennessee. They were ignoring what was yet to come, for the next morning Miley was gone. She was going to college, just like she always planned before she got famous. She didn't want to leave Nick, but Nick wasn't ready to leave the band, his life, yet. No he couldn't. So he was letting the thing he cared about the most slip through his fingers.
"Miles." She knew what he was going to try to tell her.
"Nick. You know I have to go. I have to do this. For me."
"But I don't know what I can, or will do without you. How will we make it?" Miley looked right into Nick's eyes. She knew how to read them, how to make sense of what he was thinking.
"Nicholas Jerry Jonas, why are you doubting us? What we have is real. We've made it through so much already. We can do this." She tried to sound confident in what she was saying. If only that was what she was actually thinking. She couldn't help it. A single tear fell down her cheek.
"Come on. Let's get out of here." Nick slid off the roof onto the ground, pulling Miley with him. She couldn't help but to smile. They got in his car and drove around her hometown. "You know, with all the time I've spent here, I almost feel like I grew up here."
"It was amazing growing up here. You wish you grew up here." Miley stuck her tongue at him. He smirked back at her.
"Sometimes I wish I did." They both turned and looked out the windows. Miley was trying her best to hide her tears. Nobody got this, how hard this was for her. Her daddy said that it was just another teenager relationship, that they'd move on and be okay with it. Her friends said almost the same thing, that they should just break it off. Long distance relationships never worked out. They didn't know half of what she and Nick had.
"I can't even begin to fathom that you won't be here tomorrow. That I won't have a reason for being here after tomorrow." Miley nodded without saying anything. If she tried to talk she might burst out into tears instead. Nick wasn't just her boyfriend. He was her best friend. Her lover. The one person who she could tell anything too. She couldn't even imagine what it was going to be like. Were they going to be one of those couples who only really saw each other over Skype? Were the just gonna have awkward two minute phone conversations? Miley was busy wallowing in self-pity when Nick had an outburst. "Life isn't fair!" He shouted.
"I know."
"Why do we have to grow up? What's wrong with staying seventeen forever? I'd be happy with that."
"But we'd never end up getting married if we were seventeen forever." Miley tried to reason. She sighed.
"Quit doing that." Nick snapped at her.
"Doing what?"
"Being logical. Making me believe you. Are you seriously okay with this?" Nick turned to look at Miley. This time she couldn't read his expression at all.
"No. Not at all. But deep down I know that we're gonna come out of this a better couple. We're going to have survived being apart, and it'll make us stronger. We'll work our way through this. One day at a time."
"And I die, one day at a time..." Nick sang under his breath.
"Hey. Try to be positive."
"I just don't wanna let you go." Before they knew it Nick was pulling into Miley's driveway. She got out of the car. Nick stayed for a moment.
"What are you doing? You're staying with me tonight." He followed her up the stairs and cuddled with her in the bed. Tomorrow things would change. But for the rest of the night they were only one thing. They were two kids. Two kids in love. Nothing more.
