Hi! This is my first story ever! This is kinda a test to see if I should start with writing multi-chapter fics. I'm not exactly a NaruSaku fan but I thought the song suited this pair better than it did SasuSaku, so… Ta-da! Haha hope you guys like it! (=^.^=)

*Update: I have no idea why people even liked this honestly but thank you all so much! And to my old readers; I've made quite a bit of change, actually, so you might wanna try re-reading! x)

Un-betad. Just me editing now and then, oopsie. Sorry for any spelling or grammatical errors!

Sakura's POV

(Takes place before Sasuke got shipped off to Orochimaru! May also contain some OOC-ness to suit the song, though it shouldn't be too major.)

I'm stupid, I'm useless
I can't do anything right

"Sakura. Come at me with more strength," Sasuke demanded stoically.

I placed a mask of confidence on my face and set a steady gaze on Sasuke-kun, hoping it looked convincing.

"Here I come!" I charged towards him and tried to punch him with all my might. He blocked it easily and deftly pushed my fist away like it was nothing.

I winced internally, not at all excited for what would come next.

"...Why can't you even throw a punch properly?"

I can. You just don't notice.

According to you
I'm difficult, hard to please
Forever changing my mind

I turned and stalked out of the training field, with Sasuke-kun hot on my trail.

"Sakura! Since you don't want to train, let's go grab a bite instead."

"I'm not hungry."

"Then let's go to the mall."

"There's nothing I want to buy."

"Jeez, then what is it that you want? Stop being so difficult, make up your mind already. You're wasting my time."

I bit my bottom lip. That hurt. He didn't have to put it that way. Was my mere presence really so annoying? Besides, now it's him insisting on doing something together, not me! Out loud, I told him, "I want to see the cherry blossom tree in the park. Can we meet there in half an hour? I'd like to take a shower first, please."

He scoffed. "Fine, see you later."

I'm a mess in a dress, can't show up on time
Even if it would save my life
According to you, according to you

I scurried home as fast as I could, stripping and jumping into the shower in record time. I rubbed off the sweat and grime coating my arms under the running water, grimacing at how dirty I was. Reaching up, I noticed that my hair was especially knotted. My grimace turned into a scowl. It was at times like this that I wished I had short hair, but no - I would keep my hair as long as Sasuke-kun wanted, if that's what he liked and it'd take for him to notice me.

That made me pause and think for a bit; one of the most famous rumours about Sasuke-kun was that he liked girls with long hair, which was why Ino and I had decided to grow our hairs out in the first place. I still didn't know if that was true or not, but figured I could store that question away and ask him directly when we met up later. Perhaps he'd grant me some insight?

My eyes widened and I gasped. Yikes, I was going to be late if I didn't hurry! Sasuke-kun was going to be so mad...

I finished showering and towelled myself off as quickly as possible, plucking out one of the red Chinese-style dresses I had and slipping into it with a grace that could only come from repeating this action a multitude of times.

Practice does make perfect.

Well, not all the time, but usually.

I dashed to the park, dismayed that I was already getting sweaty even though I just had a shower. I glanced around, circling the sakura tree and the area around it.

There was no sight of Sasuke-kun.

I wrung my hands together nervously, looking around desperately, hoping that he was actually around here somewhere and I had just missed him. This seemed like a huge sign that he'd given up on me. My breath hitched and it was all I could do to hold in my tears. I regretted even separating from Sasuke-kun earlier, because now he's slipped away and it doesn't feel like he'll be coming back anytime soon.

I crouched down and wrapped my arms around my knees, burrowing my face between them and hiding it from view - I didn't even care if the people around me started whispering.

Sasuke-kun always did seem like he deeply despised me; in the academy, and even when we had first formed our team, he would always push me away no matter how hard I tried to talk to him. I should have been more suspicious when he warmed up to me, albeit slightly, all of a sudden but I was too elated at the thought that of my long-time crush possibly reciprocating my feelings. I honestly had no idea what to think now.

If only he'd appear to chase all my negative thoughts away and prove to me that I was wrong. Right about now would really be a good time.

The sound of feet crunching against grass behind me was getting louder at a very fast rate. I spun around hopefully, wondering if my wish had actually been heard by the deities above.

"Sakura-chan!" Naruto waved while running to me.

'Of course,'I sighed in disappointment. Of course it wouldn't be Sasuke.

But according to him
I'm beautiful; incredible
He can't get me out of his head
According to him
I'm funny, irresistible
Everything he ever wanted

"Oh hey, Naruto, what are you doing here?" I stood up and dusted my dress before facing him fully.

"I was gonna ask you the same question, Sakura-chan! Wow, this must be fate, huh?" Naruto rubbed his hands together gleefully, "Meeting up unexpectedly!"

Irked, I crossed my arms. "Yeah, right! I was supposed to meet Sasuke-kun here fifteen minutes earlier, but…"

His usual bright and cheery face drooped into a slight frown. "Oh..."

…Well this was getting awkward…

"Hey, Sakura-chan?"

"Yeah?" I raised an eyebrow.

"Teme sure is one lucky guy, you know. He's got you, the girl who's always wanted."

I blushed, my heart thumping faster. 'What's this? Naruto says stuff like that all the time, so why now?'

"Naruto…" I mumbled, not sure how to reply.

"Oh, there's Teme, Sakura-chan," he looked to the side.

I followed his line of sight and sure enough, a highly pissed-looking Sasuke-kun was stomping towards us. I would be lying if I said that wasn't a scary sight to behold.

"I guess I'd better get going, Sakura-chan. Have fun, see ya." With that, he stalked off in the other direction, back hunched and hands stuffed into his pockets.

I didn't know why I felt crestfallen. It's not like I was expecting anything, but it was rare to see Naruto look so defeated. That was all I could think before Sasuke-kun was in front of me. I turned my attention to him. He grabbed my wrist and dragged me off towards the cherry blossom tree.

According to you
I'm boring, I'm moody
And you can't take me any place

He plucked a blossom and handed to me. I glanced at it, noting that it was a bit withered. I tried not to seem sad or disappointed, but it must have still shown on my face because Sasuke-kun frowned. He plucked another. It was still a slightly withered one, but better. I managed a smile. "Thank you, Sasuke-kun, it's beautiful."

I was curious though - he looked so mad just a moment ago, but I was glad things appeared fine, for now.

"What's with that expression? Let's just go grab an ice-cream."

I perked up at that. "Okay!" I agreed happily.

According to you
I suck at telling jokes
'Cause I always give it away

We waited for our ordered ice-cream in silence. I shifted uncomfortably. The silence was really getting uncomfortable and I started feeling desperate to break it. So meekly, I started, "Umm, hey, Sasuke-kun? Wanna hear a joke?"

He looked at me sceptically. "Hn."

I took that as a yes. "If you give it something to eat, it grows bigger. If you give it something to drink, it dies. What's it called? I mean, it's bright and orange..."

"A fire, obviously," he rolled his eyes. "Just stop while you're ahead, Sakura. You're horrible at this."

I cringed. "Sorry," I whispered.

The ice-cream man called us up to collect our cones and honestly, I had never been gladder.

I'm the girl with the worst attention span
You're the boy who puts up with that
According to you, according to you

After finishing our ice-cream, which was done in further silence, we decided to just take a stroll.

"Sakura."

I thought about the conversion I had with Naruto earlier.

"Sakura."

It was so… weird, for the lack of a better word. I felt weird, at least.

"Sakura!" Sasuke yelled.

Shocked, I snapped my head up to look at him. "I'm so, so, sorry! What were you saying?" I trailed off hesitantly.

"What is wrong with you? Can't you pay attention?" He grit his teeth, irritated. "No, forget it, I don't even want to know."

I focused on the ground, too afraid to meet his eyes.

"Enough of this. Let's just go home." With that, he turned away, not even bothering to look back to see if I was following. I faintly heard him mumbling to himself.

I sighed, shutting my eyes and hanging my head. My whole body seemed to flop, the energy sucked out of me.

Maybe this was for the best…

This was for the best.

But according to him
I'm beautiful, incredible
He can't get me out of his head

I'm funny, irresistible
Everything he ever wanted

Instead of heading home, I went back to the sakura tree. I gently lifted a fallen cherry blossom from the ground. It felt so soft to the touch, and I couldn't help but wonder how Sasuke-kun's hands would feel like, too.

"Sakura-chan?" I resisted the urge to spin around completely, turning my face just enough to see him.

"Naruto? I thought you left already."

"Ah…" He laughed shakily and rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "Well, weren't you supposed to be with teme?"

"We decided to just part ways and go home." Surprisingly, I didn't actually feel all that sad. It'd be more accurate to say I was experiencing mixed feelings right now.

"Haha, since we're both here, would you mind some company?" His eyes sparkled.

My lips curled up into a genuine smile. "Sure."

He grinned. "Now that's the Sakura-chan I know! Always giving off that beautiful, irresistible smile!"

I could feel my cheeks heating up. "W-what?" I stuttered. That's right, I actually stuttered! This is Naruto we're talking about, get a grip!

"You just looked really down just now. Didn't you enjoy your date with teme?"

"Date?" Oh, yeah... That could be considered a date, but it sure wasn't how I envisioned a date would be. A date with Sasuke-kun involved a pink, happy, flowery aura surrounding us as we chatted and laughed together. Today just seemed… awkward. Now that I think about it, I was always getting scolded or insulted by Sasuke-kun. I used to think everything was great as long as he was talking to me, but I had to admit that this way of thinking had changed recently.

"No, I didn't really like it," I decided to admit honestly.

Naruto smiled. "Then, do you want to get some ramen with me, Sakura-chan?"

My stomach grumbled the moment he said that, making Naruto double over in laughter.

My eye twitched and I clenched my fists. That timing was impeccable.

Seeing my clenched fists, Naruto calmed his laughter. "Uh… Sorry-"

"Let's go."

The ramen bar was as busy as always. We hadn't even sat ourselves before Naruto was shouting his order. Teuchi belted out a jolly laugh and turned his smile to me. "And what would this lady like?"

I giggled. "A bowl of beef ramen, please!"

"Coming right up!"

Things were silent for a moment before Naruto blurted out, "Yay! I'm on a date with Sakura-chan!"

Typical Naruto. I chuckled and shook my head, but didn't object this time. If anything, this was much more relaxing compared to the time I spent with Sasuke-kun earlier that day.

"Sakura?"

Well speak of the devil and he shall appear.

"Eh, Sasuke-kun?"

His facial expression was one of rage. Surprise, surprise.

"What are you doing here with the dobe? Need I remind you that you're my girlfriend?" Sasuke demanded with narrowed eyes.

"Relax, teme, sheesh! Sakura-chan was upset so we came for some ramen! Ramen makes everything better," Naruto grinned cheekily.

Sasuke-kun glared at him and proceeded to pull me out of the stand.

"What are you upset about? You can tell me anything."

I could, sure, but you wouldn't take any of it to heart.

That's how it's been all this time, after all.

I need to feel appreciated
Like I'm not hated, oh no
Why can't you see me through his eyes?
It's too bad, you're making me decide

"Sasuke-kun, I think… Maybe, we should break up."

Half of me was screaming at myself. Wasn't a relationship with Sasuke-kun what I'd always dreamed of? I had spent most of my academy life chasing him, for goodness' sake! Yet, the other half of me silently cheered. I would be free of verbal abuse.

"What? Don't tell me you're choosing the dobe over me?" He scoffed. "Stop being ridiculous," He continued with a condescending tone, "Either tell me what the real issue if, or forget it."

I glared at him. "As a matter of fact, yes! I do choose Naruto over you… Sasuke."

Sasuke looked mildly surprised that I had dropped the honorific behind his name.

But according to me
you're stupid, you're useless
You can't do anything right

"You're the stupid one and you just can't get things right!" Regarding certain issues, at least.

I didn't hesitate to give him the slap he deserved. The best part was that I didn't miss.

Who knew Sasuke was such a possessive, demeaning and overall horrible person? I clearly didn't, until now, blinded by my infatuation. Naruto surely did, though.

But according to him
I'm beautiful, incredible
He can't get me out of his head

Everything he ever wanted

I stalked off back home, totally pissed. How dare he treat me like that all this time? How could I have been so stupid as to not realise that?

Unconsciously, my mind wandered off to Naruto. He treated me so kindly, warmly. He was the one who was there when I needed a shoulder to lean on. Not even Ino-pig could compare to him.

"Sakura-chan! Don't worry, you can always count on me!"

"Yeah, thanks, Naruto."

~.~.~.~

"Sakura-chan, what's wrong? Why are you crying? Don't cry... It makes me upset to see you cry. Just tell me who I need to pound and I'll do it, I swear!"

I gave a shaky, watery laugh at that.

It had always been Naruto. Always, Naruto.

I didn't realise the tears that were dripping down until I heard a soft "Don't cry, Sakura-chan."

I looked up. Naruto? Why was he at my house…? Oh! Was he here for the ramen money?

"Are you here for the ramen money?" I hurried to take out my purse, "I'm so sorry for suddenly disappearing on you like that!"

"Of course not, silly Sakura-chan," He chuckled and gently laid a hand on mine to stop me from taking out the money. Using the other, he held up my chin, and kissed me lightly on the lips. My eyes widened, but slowly drifted close.

He pulled away, staring into my emerald orbs. "I love you Sakura-chan, I really do."

I smiled. I had found my answer; I was stupid not to have realised it sooner - Naruto was the one I really loved, and would continue loving from now on.

"I love you too," I replied without an ounce of hesitation.

I was glad I broke up with Sasuke-kun, though I was still grateful to him because without him, I never would have realised my true feelings – the feelings I shouldn't have been denying.

And that's that! Personally, I feel sort of dissatisfied with this but maybe it's just me. I hope the rest of you found it all right! (: Favourties and reviews would mean a lot to me xo (I probably won't be updating this since it's a one-shot, so there's no point in following, really. Haha.)
