Authors Note: I don't own Star Wars, but if I did it wouldn't be as good as
it is now. This contains kind of spoilers, I suppose, for episode II.
Enjoy, and feel free to review! Any comments on my writing are appreciated.
It was his eyes.
After wondering what made her succumb to this madness for so long, Padme had finally figured it out. It was his eyes, the eyes that had looked at her with such innocence and hope on Tatooine. The eyes that looked at her when he had asked "are you an angel?"
It was in his eyes, in the way he looked at her that he loved her when he came to protect her from the bounty hunter. It was in his eyes, the hurt, and the pain when Shmi had died, when he had slaughtered all the Tuscan.
It was his eyes that told her how much he loved her, treasured her the day he had married her. The day he had disobeyed the Jedi order for her, to be with her. It was in his eyes she saw the passion that night, the longing when he made love to her.
Padme sighed and got up to wander around their house. Everyone was doing something, and since she had resigned as Senator she was utterly bored, especially when Anakin was gone. Which was so often now, and when he did come back it was with hatred, with loathing of the very idea of life in his once innocent eyes.
He had told her he'd be back any day now via the com-link, where he resided while away from her was confidential information. At first she was jealous, thinking he was cheating on her, that there was another woman in his life. Then she had come to the realization the coldness in his eyes was for every living being.
She missed him, even when he was with her. The man that stood beside her now wasn't Anakin at all, but another man. It was rare that his eyes expressed anything she ever knew her husband to be, and she grew weary from all the crying.
The former senator walked out onto the balcony, the very one he had first expressed his love on, the one they had been married on. It was also the one he had first struck her on.
It was his eyes.
It was his eyes that told her of the hate, the utter loathing, of the pain, the suffering.
It was his eyes that said "I don't love you".
