Stealing Cinderella

Matt sat alone in the Lehman's grand living room. He was uncomfortable from the time he got to the large house. He was staring at the pictures on the mantle of a little girl. It was no secret to anyone why Matt wanted to meet with Mr. Lehman alone on this morning and maybe that's why the man had left Matt to wait for so long.

He walked over to the stone mantle and picked up a photo of a five year old Emily riding her bike. He smiled at the sight of her in shorts and pigtails. His grin widened as he looked at the rest of the pictures of Emily dressing up as Cinderella with a tiara on her head, in pink pajamas jumping on the bed, running through the sprinkler in her first bikini and dancing on her dad's toes. He leaned in closer to take a better look and at that moment felt like he was catching a glimpse of a princess in her castle.

Mr. Lehman cleared his throat as he entered the room. "She's great, isn't she?" He asked as Matt turned around.

"She's amazing." Matt replied as they stared at each other. That's when he realized that Emily would always be that little girl in her father's eyes.

Emily once told Matt that he was her Prince Charming, but right now he felt like the guy stealing Cinderella. He promised to always love her, to protect her and make her happy before finally asking the question that had been waiting for so long. Mr. Lehman thought hard before offering a reply as he shook his hand, and then he called her into the room.

She came in and hugged her daddy smiling at Matt all along. It was then that Matt realized she would always be the little girl in pictures and that he was coming in to change that.

He knew things wouldn't always be easy and he couldn't blame Mr. Lehman if he gave him a hard time, because after all he was marrying his little girl.
