Angel of Light
"I used to think that if I did daring
things,
Hikari-chan would like me
Or maybe if I did things that no other
boy in class has done before,
Hikari-chan would like me
But I was wrong
Hikari-chan was my best friend in fourth
grade
We chatted together
Played together
Had fun together
That is, until fifth grade
I started the school year with a cheer
Certain that another great year was about
to begin
With Hikari-chan
Then
When I met that boy on the soccer field
He changed everything
Hikari was no longer my best friend
No longer my soul mate
No longer my Light
I knew about her crest, somehow, before
she came to tell me about it
I guess the Light just shines thru her
Whenever she smiles,
You can't help but smile back
When Hikari showed me her son
I was shocked
He looked so much like her
And so much like Takeru
Although they werent married
Hikari was my angel of Light
Long before Takeru came
Long before we went our separate ways
And so…here I am now.
Old and ancient."
My grandfather laughed.
I laugh with him
It felt so good to be with grandfather
Although so many girls in my school
Consider it "uncool"
"So that Hikari girl…does she still stay
in touch with you?"
I asked.
Grandpa Daisuke heaved a sigh
And touched a pair of goggles resting on
the bookshelf
"She died two years ago in a car accident
with her brother."
"Oh…" I had feeling that now wasn't a
good time to mention that
My grandfather's physician said he hadn't
long to live either
"You see these goggles?" Grandpa Daisuke
asked as he lifted them up
I nodded
My grandfather smiled kindly
"They're yours now."
As he fitted them over my spiked burgundy
hair
Then he made another crack about my
haircut
"Quite an unusual hairstyle for a girl."
I slapped his arm playfully
"Grandpa!"
My grandfather smiled and stroked my hair
"My little Aiko…
The time will come when you will have to
face hardships.
But be prepared.
Things shall always tilt your way if you believe
in
Courage,
Friendship,
And Light."
I nodded
The next day,
I received news that,
On June 16, 2001 AD,
Daisuke Motomiya, aged 87,
Has passed away peacefully in his sleep
…and another thing
My crest is the crest of Light.
