ALEXANDER

By Kurai Tenshi

I could feel it suddenly, as if Gaia herself was trembling.

I could feel the pulsating magic that was flowing from two Summoners.

I could feel the power building within me, threatening to break the walls that surrounded me.

And then I was free.

My pure white wings burst from my back, a thousand feathers escaping confinement and rushing out to the world. I rose, a giant among minute beings, so small I could crush them without thinking. Above me was the night sky, the many stars hidden by dark clouds, the moon barely shining through. Beneath me was the town and the castle, with two young girls pulsating in my magic. Those were my Summoners.

I then saw the other eidolon, Bahamut, snarling dangerously. I folded my wings around the castle, protecting it. I barely felt Bahamut's attacks against my wings, and though I have not fought for eons, I could still recognize a challenge.

Fight me! roared the dragon. And I did.

I unfurled my wings, revealing my true self to all, towering above them. I glowed with the magic I had not felt for centuries, the raw power surging through my body like never before. I attacked Bahamut, who fled from me. But he did not fly for long, for my magic caught him and squeezed the power from him, forcing him back to his prison.

Then I was at peace. The flow of power slowed, and I let my wings droop. I was surprisingly tired after the years of rest, but I was glad I had protected Alexandria.

But not for long.

I glanced upwards, and there, forcing the clouds away, was a huge red circle, glowing ominously. It transformed into a massive eyeball, and I knew it was a threat. I folded my wings around the castle once more, hoping I could save those two young Summoners with my power.

I failed them.

I saw the beam come down, with magical energy stronger than my own. It tore through my wings and cracked my armor, taking chunks from the castle walls beneath me. But all the pain I felt was condensed, for I knew my Judgment had come. Knowing then that I was to be pulled back to my millennia-long prison, knowing then that I had failed in protecting the two Last Summoners, I let go of all pain.

I fell, right onto the crystalline sword of the castle. I broke apart, destroying the castle as I fell to the earth. I watched as the Summoners hung onto each other for dear life, and I felt pity upon them. They were too young to die.

And then I vanished completely, back to my eternal confinement. But my last vision of Gaia was a boy with a tail grabbing onto the Last Summoners, saving them from destruction.

I had failed Alexandria.

But someone else had saved it.
