Legend of the Stargate
Richard Rahl's boots thudded against the marble floors as he strode along the corridors of the People's Palace at a brisk pace. Half a step behind him, off to his right was Cara; Mord-sith and his bodyguard. Her face set in a grim expression as she vigilantly scanned the hallways for anyone who might get in the way of the Lord Rahl. There were never any problems with that when a Mord-sith wore that expression. People were only too eager getting out of her way. They came to a door in the side of the hallway and Richard opened it and entered; Cara right on his heels. Inside was a library, which was empty apart from four people all bent down over a book which lay open on a table.
"Richard!" His grandfather Zedd looked up when he heard Richard enter. "Good you came. You are not going to believe what Berdine has found!"
"Are you sure? I'd say I've seen some pretty amazing things in my time."
"Yes and you just might have a chance to see even more now." Nicci said as she lifted her gaze from the open book. "Though I have seen a lot of strange things and I'm not sure I can believe what I'm reading."
"Will you stop teasing the poor boy and just tell him!" Kahlan exclaimed "As if it isn't bad enough that he had to wait all morning while finishing up matters of state."
Relieved by the interruption Richard hurriedly asked:
"So, what is that has you all so worked up? And don't tell me I'm not going to believe it; I already heard that."
"It's this book." Berdine said, tapping the book. Though a Mord-sith lika Cara, Berdine was fascinated by books and in fact served more as a researcher than a bodyguard. More than once the information she had uncovered had proven invaluable.
"I found it behind several other books over on that shelf there, while searching for information about the Dark Lands."
"But it doesn't say anything about the Dark Lands." Nicci injected "In fact it doesn't seem to say anything about anywhere."
"Then what does it say?" Richard asked.
"It speaks of a way to travel to other worlds."
"Other worlds?" Richard asked. "As in the underworld? We already know how that can be done and trust me, it isn't pleasant."
"No, no, nothing like that. It speaks of a way to travel to other worlds beyond the stars."
