Breathe

The world was spinning and when she opened her eyes, she doubled over in pain.

"Mrs. Almasy?"

She tried to answer; but all that came out were mumbles and breath leaving her body. Her lips wouldn't listen to her brain. Pain, pain, pain. It was all she felt and it was making her grimace and squirm in the bed. There was a pinch in her arm and she felt like she was slipping. The pain in her abdomen was subdued and her muscles relaxed, but still, things weren't right.

Seifer, Seifer. Where was he? She felt a hand - it was his hand - grasp hers. Barely awake now, she weakly squeezed his fingers.

"Sir, please. We have to make sure she's breathing properly." A voice right next to her - a nurse, male – said.

"Yeah, yeah. This is my wife. I should have the right to stay in here." Seifer snarled impatiently. The weight and warmth of his arm left her as he got to his feet. "Now where's my son?" He was asking, more like demanding.

Was he leaving her alone in this room? She breathed in sharply as reaction, body shuddering and alerting the closest nurse.

---

She woke up into a dark room, the curtains were drawn, to keep the starlight out. Her side was aching with a dull pain, but she could barely feel it because she wasn't thinking about it.

"Yuna?"

She blinked, straining to pick him out of the darkness. He leaned over her, hands taking her own.

"Seifer?" She whispered, she still couldn't see him.

He nodded before murmuring, "Yeah, it's me." She smiled and something in her heart jumped. She was safer with him near.

"Where is he? Can I see him?" She asked, speaking too fast, the words blending softly together. She broke away from his hands, trying to pull him closer instead.

"Hey, calm down. It's okay. He's fine."

She felt his back tighten underneath her fingers. "What's wrong?" She questioned urgently, getting a little louder.

Seifer raised a finger to her and pressed his lips to her forehead, turning away toward the window afterwards. "Nothing. He's in intensive care." The room stayed still and quiet. "Don't worry though; he's a good looking kid." He struggled getting the words to fit right.

It was silent and Yuna could feel the anxiety rolling off of the blonde's shoulders. He wasn't looking at her. "Seifer?" She called to him softly.

He turned to her again, pulling her closer. "Yuna. I'm sorry. I…that I wasn't here at first."

"It doesn't matter. I love you." She mumbled without hesitation, letting her arms wrap around him as much as they could. "Thank you for coming." She smiled even though he couldn't see.

A nurse came in; There was some momentary beeping and messing with her IV before she got another pain injection and dozed off.

Seifer was the first thing she saw the next morning, sprawled out in the chair in the corner, the sun draped across his face. It was beautiful.

AN: Ah..."he" needs a name.
