The deed was done. Castiel had killed Samandriel, his own little brother, just as Naomi ordered. Naomi praised Castiel as a hero, applauding him for finishing off the "traitor." But Castiel felt no pride in himself, no sense of accomplishment. How could he, when he had just slipped a blade into his own brother and one of the only angels who still admired and loved him?
Now, Castiel slumped onto the ground, Samadriel's body lying lifeless in his arms. Thick red blood began to stain Castiel's long coat as he held Samandriel close to himself. He beheld Samandriel's pale, bloodied face. His metallic blue eyes, once filled with the wonder and brightness of youth, were cold and empty. With a gentle touch of his fingers, Castiel slowly pulled down his eyelids over his eyes and rested his head on his lap. With a heavy and forlorn heart, Castiel enveloped the young angel in his wings.
It had been too long since Castiel held Samandriel liked this. He knew he had to return his little brother's body back to Heaven, just as Naomi ordered, but he didn't want to let go just yet. Silent tears streaked down his face as a memory drifted in his mind. He remembered the day Samandriel was created, long long ago in Heaven. As he gazed into his lifeless visage, Castiel remembered how joyful he felt when his little brother was born and his eagerness to hold the new fledgeling. Castiel relived the very first time he cradled his head in his hands, remembering the soft brush of Samandriel's once tiny wings and the adoration in his wide eyes as he stared up at the older angel. Castiel could never forget the warmth that filled his being when he caressed baby Samandriel to his chest and sang him hymns and lullabies, or the pride he felt for being the first one to welcome this new one to Heaven.
Back home, Naomi was waiting for him to return the boy's body. Her orders rang in his head, but he could barely hear them over his own memories and thoughts of guilt. His heart broke as he tried to lose himself in his memories and all his moments with the young angel.
He had been the one to teach Samandriel about what it means to be an angel. It was Castiel who taught him everything, guiding him, and promising to protect him as Samandriel looked at his big brother with such admiration and love. And now it was he who had been the one to end his life.
It was Castiel who had been the first, and now the last, to hold him.
Author's Notes: Phew, finally done my first official fanfic on this site! I gotta admit, it took me a long time to finally get through crying and screaming in frustration to finally get this piece done. I feel pretty good about finishing my first Supernatural fic up here, and it would be awesome if you tell me what you think in the reviews! Oh, and I apologize for my first fic to be really sad.
