Kind of random – spoilers for 5:10. Disclaimer: I don't own.
Ellen Harvelle – she was pretty kick-ass, wasn't she? She tried so hard and she gave so much – don't you think she deserved a little more than being blown up in a convenience store, with her bleeding daughter in her arms? Dying on a failed suicide mission – it's not much of a way to go, is it?
It's kind of ironic, though, how all of the Harvelles were killed by Winchesters. And how both of the Harvelle women had loved Winchester men and it hadn't ended pretty. But at least Jo hadn't been married and pregnant when it happened. Ellen never did forgive John for letting Will die, but she gave up being bitter about that a long time ago. Or, at least, until his sons came waltzing into her bar. And she wanted to hate them, really she did, but they came with his car, Sam with his smile, Dean with his charm and his jacket. So how could she?
It broke her heart to see Jo, so young and naïve, falling for Dean, so life-worn and so not-in-love-with-her. She knew it wouldn't end well, but when did it ever for hunters?
And when Jo threw herself in front of a Hellhound for him, she knew there was no use trying to stop her – after all, wouldn't she have done the same and more for John?
So, as she sat there, in a convenience store, a detonator in her dying daughter's hand, she shed a few tears – of course she did. They were for Jo, so young and in love, and for all the things she'd never see her do.
But they were also in relief that she would never see her go through the heartbreak of loving a Winchester more than they love her back (because she saw the look on her face when Dean kissed her, and she saw the look on his).
Some of the tears were selfish ones – for her loss, for the pain. None of them were for John, though. He didn't even cross her mind. It's kind of funny how she could only get over him right before she died.
Thinking about it, being blown up in a convenience store isn't the worst way to go, is it? At least she went out with a bang.
Thoughts?
