Right before the battle of Hogwarts, Seamus was sorting out explosives to blow up the Wooden Bridge on the outskirts of the building. He gathered up all the 'bombs' and put them in a bag to plant them on the legs of the bridge. Before he could turn and run, Dean grabbed his collar.
"Be safe," Dean said, "I don't know what I'd do without you, Seamus." Seamus smiled at his best friend and hugged him.
"I'll be fine, I promise." He let go of Dean and ran off in the distance, leaving Dean feeling what he could only describe as heart-broken. What would happen if Seamus died? What would happen if Seamus came back seriously injured? Dean could only hold back the tears that were forming in his eyes and hope for the best.
After explosions and deaths, Dean was rushing around the Great Hall, seeing the dead bodies of Fred Weasley, the funny but loveable 20 year old, with George Weasley whom was sobbing over his lifeless body, quietly denying that his beloved twin was gone. He saw Lupin and Tonks lying there, motionless, with members of the Order around them, crying, but trying to look strong. And he saw Seamus. He saw Seamus running towards him, hugging him tightly as they touched. Without thinking, Dean kissed Seamus' cheek. Seamus looked at Dean, confused, but smiled.
