Kess sat with Haile. Her brother was two years younger then her, but she still talked to him like he was just as old as her. She looked at him and watched him. He was skinny and strong, like Peeta. But he was green-eyed and brown haired like Katniss. Now she was blonde and blue-eyed like Peeta, but tan, quick, and clever like Katniss. They both looked nothing like the other.
But they both had the dreams. They both saw the ghosts. They both didn't recognize any of them. They both didn't know where they came from. And they certainly didn't know why they came to them.
" Who did you see last night." Haile asked blankly.
" The orange-haired girl and the little dark-skinned girl." Kess answered.
" The knife-throwing girl and the blonde girl who had the bow. " He said.
"Oh" Was her only reply.
They sat in silence for what felt like forever, before Haile spoke up.
"We should ask them."
They both knew who he was talking about and Kess turned to him.
"Why would we do that? You know that neither of them ever talk to us, and the only thing we know about our own parents is that Katniss led the rebellion. My point is, that they should tell us more about them for us to tell them about ourselves!"
Another silence stood after Kess's little outburst.
"I'm sorry, you just know how I feel about them."
"It's okay, I understand."
Night fell before either of them communicated again. It was Kess who finally stood up and gestured for him to come back with her. He shook his head and whispered that he would sleep outside in his tree. It came as no surprise to her, as that's what he had been doing for a while now.
She walked off into the dark towards the house before coming back with his meal. It was a slice of bread and some chicken, as usual and he came down and ate is graciously with her. He walked off uncerimoniously, leaving her to take his plate. She called off a goodnight before returning home. Peeta and Katniss were already asleep and she wondered breifly if they even cared about their children, as they hadn't even stayed awake long enough to make sure Kess had gotten home safely. She slipped underneath her thin quilt and sheet and drifted into sleep.
She watched in horror as the blonde-haired heavyset man took his sword and swung the small orange-haired boy bag against a crate with it. That boy would never move, never blink, never smile, never laugh, never breathe, or live, ever again.
She moved to a different vision as the orange-haired girl stuffed the black, deadly berries into her mouth. Nightlock. Even Kess knew how deadly they were. The girl fell, her eyes still open, and the berries still in her hand. Kess still choked, even though it was the fifth time she had seen it. Turning around, she tried to stop anymore visions from coming but it was useless. She watched as the blonde-haired heavyset man was attacked by the wolf-creatures before an arrow shot through his forhead in mercy. She never saw who shot the arrow...
Every time she saw this one, she would turn around but she would wake just before she saw the shooter.
She woke with a start to find herself alone and in bed. Kess sighed deeply, before heading downstairs to go find her brother.
