In One Word

Haru: I'm so sorry about not updating my other fanfics so long, although, as we speak, I am working on the next chapter of my Kingdom Hearts fanfic. This idea popped into my head and I had to write it down before I forgot, so please enjoy!

If you asked Kai to describe his relationship with Rei in as many words as he needed, he would only have to use one: 'honesty.'

While dating Takao a few years back, he couldn't help but feel a barrier between them, like a gaint wall made of glass, one where both of them could see and hear the other, but neither of them could feel the other, and becuase of that, both of them were afraid to speak honestly with each other, in fear of losing the other forever.

He knew Takao felt the same way, he could see the doubt and fear in Takao's eyes every time he asked him a question and he could he hear the waver in his voice every time he answered back.

He could remember back to those morning when he would wake both of them up and walk into the kitchen to grab some coffee. Coming back into his room, he would always find Takao sitting up in bed, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

"So, how do I look?" Kai would ask, his hair pointing out in every direction, his clothes wrinkled and disheveled, and his face spoltched with the blue marking of his face paint from the day before. Each morning Takao would stare at him for a moment, his eyes showing the fear that he felt inside.

"Ummm...you look...okay..." he would always stutter out, before dropping his head onto his knees. Kai would then sit next to him on the bed and begin to rub his back.

"I'm so sorry."

"You don't have to be."

Their relationship only lasted for a few months before they both decided to call it off. Neither of them felt depressed about their situation, it was if the barrier had been taken away, leaving them both to talk as friends.

Shortly afterwords, Takao began dating Max, and the fear that had once been locked inside Takao had been replaced by pure happiness and peace.

It was around that time that Kai and Rei had also begun dating. From the start, neither of them felt the same barrier that had held back Kai and Takao, both of them were free to touch the other, and to know what they were thinking.

"So, how do I look?" Kai asked, walking back into his bedroom and finding Rei sitting in a nearby chair, flipping through a magazine. Rei only looked up for a second before his mouth curved upward into a smirk. "Like hell."

Kai could only smirk himself as he walked over to the chair and pulled his neko-koi out of his seat, "like your one to talk. You still have your night clothes on."

His smirk curving into a smile, Rei began to nuzzle his head on Kai's neck while his hands began to travel and explore under Kai's shirt, "well, how about we just fix that little problem."

It was this kind of honesty that Kai loved more then anything.
