Your P.O.V.

That's it. The summer heat was finally getting to me.

I swear, if the bell didn't ring soon, somebody's going to get it. Looking up from my notebook (Which consisted of stupid doodles, and nothing important like the notes we were supposed to be taking down) I quickly tapped Matt on the shoulder, who happened to be sitting in front of me.

Matt? We've known each other since the beginning of Middle School. He needed someone to help him defeat Sephiroth in Final Fantasy VII, and I just happened to complete that game the week before school started. Our love for videogames was the base of our friendship.

When he didn't respond, I peered over his shoulder and rolled my eyes when I saw he was playing his beloved PSP underneath the desk, away from the teacher's view.

Seriously, this guy's life practically revolved around gaming that it was getting sort of unhealthy.

…Not that I couldn't say much either, I've been basically a shut in for the past two months ever since I got that damn Pokémon game. Neglecting studies and homework just to level up my Pokémon…At least Matt was able to keep up with his work and maintain his usual B+.

While my English teacher droned on and on about some pointless poet "back in the days", I was mentally hitting myself on the head for forgetting my DS at home. It could've kept me entertained while I burned underneath the sun's heat. That's when I also mentally cursed my teacher for putting me in a seat right next to the window.

Looking around the classroom boredly, I noticed that Mello wasn't paying much attention either. In fact, the blonde chocolate-addict was sneaking a few pieces of leftover chocolate into his mouth. I snorted. There was a high chance Mello probably already knew everything we were learning in class right now.

Mello is Matt's best friend. And despite how they're complete polar opposites, they've been best friends since they were in diapers! Mello was a stubborn, headstrong chocolate addict that was easily irritated while Matt was a lazy and mellow boy with a strong addiction to videogames.

I turned my gaze towards Near, who was sitting beside Mello. Those two, they were so competitive.

RIIIIING!

"Finally!" As the bell's annoying but heavenly sound of screeching rang throughout the school, signalling the end of the day, I was already packing my bag and swinging it over my shoulder, nearly whacking Mello across the head.

"Watch it!" Mello snapped, stalking off pass me and Matt. Somebody was moody.

"Don't mind him," Matt said, waving it off quickly. "He's bitching again 'cause he lost to Near…Again."

I nodded my head, eyeing Near who was following the small crowd of students out the classroom door.

Near…He wasn't the most social student throughout the school.

In fact he was quiet. Really quiet. He didn't talk to anyone much, and preferred the sanctuary of the school's library, away from the majority of the school's population.

But Near was smart. Smart enough to win the attention of several different prestigious colleges.

Near wasn't always with us though. He moved into our school only last year. Mello was the reigning king of academics before he moved in. Shortly after that, all the teachers' attention turned towards Near. I can kind of understand why Mello would hate Near. I mean, the blonde chocolate-addict did work his ass off to earn his high place in the teachers' good book.

Near…Well, being the quiet anti-social boy he was, it was a surprise the teacher even took notice of him at all in class, and not just by his test results.

"Whatever, let's go." Hand in hand, me and Matt literally skipped together out the door. We ignored all the weird looks we got from other students, because we're just that awesome. And no, we're not going out or anything. We're just friends, honestly!

There was a café down the road. Usually, it'd be us three going home together; me, Mello and Matt. We'd order ice cream and sit outside on the street, people watching. Mello would order a chocolate ice cream, Matt would order vanilla and I'd steal licks and bites off Mello's ice cream.

Since Mello wasn't with us that day, we didn't buy any ice cream. We never bought ice cream on our way home from school without the other; it just wouldn't be the same, y'know? We've always been like this, ever since we three became friends.

"The Golden Trio", that's what people called us.

"Here's my stop, I guess." I said, letting go of Matt's hand.

"You're working tonight?" Nodding, we said goodbye (The usual fist punch).

Every Wednesday and Friday, I was usually found working my butt off in Wammy's Café. Really, that's the name! My boss, Watari, he's cool. Thanks to him, the staff receives discounts on every item of food for sale. Lucky, huh?

I entered the café, instantly noticing that it wasn't as crowded as it usually was.

And that's when I spotted something rare. A young boy, with messy white hair, sitting in the far corner of the café. He was reading, a book propped up against the metal tissue holder. His eyes going back and forth across the page while sipping on a banana smoothie.

I never thought I'd see someone who preferred the sanctuary of the library and the peaceful atmosphere it offered sitting in one of the most popular after-school hang out spots.

Especially Near.

You're wondering what's going on in this story, aren't you? Well, to be honest, I'm still wondering what's going to happen next. But you're completely lost! Here's a few questions I asked myself while writing the first chapter.

*What could've happened if Mello, Matt and Near were three, ordinary high school boys?

*What could've happened if there was NO Wammy Orphanage and L and Watari didn't solve cases for a living?

*What could've happened if Light never found that Death Note and everything and everyone in 'Death Note' wasOrdinary?

Everyone has their own thoughts and opinions on this matter. So here's mine, and that's this story.
