Disclaimer: I'm just playing with JK Rowling's toys. I promise to put them back when I'm done, whenever that is.
Spoilers: Deathly Hallows!
Pairing: Tonks/Remus, but alludes to Remus/Sirius
Summary: She had to say it.
Completed: July 24, 2007
Notes: You know, I needed to give Tonks some credit. I certainly don't think she got much from JK in the end. So Tonks, this is for 5th Book you!
Tonks ran through the crowd, sparks of red flying from her wand. Her hair glowing the same blazing colour the deeper she got into the castle.
"Remus!"
He spun at the sound of his name, "Tonks! What the hell are you doing here?"
"I had to come," she stated simply, casting a jinx over her husband's shoulder.
He sighed: a deep, desperate sound. There was a fire in her eyes and the lecture he had planned dried in his throat. He just gave her a firm nod, ready to return to the fray.
"Wait," she grabbed hold of his arm, her eyes wide and wild, "I…I love you."
Remus stared back at her for a moment, all the noise around them forgotten, muted. He closed his eyes tight, and gave a shake to his head, "Tonks..I…"
She put her fingers up to his lips to silence him, giving him a small smile, "I know, it's okay. Really. I've always known." Her hair flickered to black, but she fought to keep it burning red. "I…I just had to tell you." She raised herself up on her toes to press a quick kiss on his lips, "Now let's go out there and win."
He stared again, shocked by the woman before him. The woman he married in grief, who became the mother of his son – she was so much like Sirius sometimes it hurt.
"We will win," he assured her with a smile before watching Tonks run off into the sea of cloaks and curses, wand held steady and true.
End.
