*Now I lay me down to sleep.
I pray thee Lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake,
I pray thee Lord my soul to take.
If I should live for other days,
I pray thee Lord to guide my ways.*
Cradling the sleeping babe in her arms, Lily let the tears slip down her cheeks, falling softly to rest on the soft skin her son.
"Do you really have to go James?" She asked of the man standing in the nursery doorway, a regretfull look on his face.
"It's dark times, my love. Voldemort won't let us lay oblivious forever, I have to fight."
She put the baby in his crib and turned to face her husband.
"But I need you, your son needs you! Leave the Dark Lord to the Ministry; we could pack up tonight! We could go somewhere far away that war hasn't touched yet. Maybe we could convince Sirius, Remus, and Peter to go with us."
James' eyes glinted with tears as he took his wife in his arms, "They wouldn't go Lily, and we can't either. This war won't resolve itself. And Voldemort would hunt us down wherever we go, you know that."
Lily pressed her face into his shirt, making it damp with her tears, "I can't lose you James Potter! It would kill me, I swear it would kill me."
"Stay strong Lily, the dark can't stay forever." He murmured into her hair.
"But it can last long enough to take away all I love." She whispered back.
James sighed, "Alright Lily, I'll talk to Albus tomorrow about placing us in hiding, but I still have to go help in the battle tonight."
Lily raised up on her tiptoes and kissed him softly on the mouth, "Thank you James."
"I love you Lily Potter."
"Not as much as I love you James."
He held her for a moment more before pulling away, "I'll see you at 6am."
She nodded tearfully, and he walked out. Moving to the nursery window she watched him come out the front door and walk over to where Remus, Sirius, and Peter were waiting, with a nod from James they all dissaperated.
She turned back to her sleeping child, "Don't worry Harry, everything will be okay. We'll go into hiding and Voldemort won't find us. We'll be safe."
A sense of peace filled her, "We'll finally be safe."
Smiling softly she went to go fix herself a cup of tea, checking the calendar as she went, it was three days to Halloween.
