It is still July 4 where I live. So happy birthday Cap and here goes a little Romanogers that was written while in zoology class. Hope you enjoy and as always the AVENGERS are the property of MARVEL.

One shot

Natasha sat up in bed, the sheets pooling on her lap. Her nipples tightened when assaulted by the cold air of the room. A quick glance showed her that she was alone. She wondered where Steve had gone until the shadowy figure at the balcony caught her eye. Grabbing Steve's discarded button down and putting it on, she moved from the bed and to the super soldier.

Despite the tranquility of the night and the light of the moon, he was tense. He wore only his sweats which hung low on his narrow hips. The soldier was completely focused on the Wakandan jungle that sprawled before them. She walked up to him and hugged his waist, her forehead coming to rest between his shoulder blades.

"Are you ok?"

"I'm fine, it just feels weird."

Natasha nodded, she could understand how he felt being somewhere other than the USA on the 4th of July. He had certain things he always did on this day and this time that was impossible.

"I'm sorry about this."

"Not your fault. You weren't the one who started all this."

"I know but it's your birthday and I'd love to be able to smuggle you home, however..."

"I am home," he interrupted.

"Oh, I didn't know you'd gotten so used to Wakanda."

"I'm not."

"Then... I don't understand, you just called it home."

Steve chuckled and turned around in her arms, "I meant you, Nat. You're my home. Wherever you and Wanda are is my home. I can't lose you two. I wouldn't go back to New York if it means leaving the two of you behind."

"Oh," Natasha said, eyes wide and flushed cheeks.

Steve chuckled again and kissed her mouth, he was amused at leaving her speechless-it didn't happen often.

"What about your visit to your mom?"

"It's going to have to wait this year, I'm not putting either of you in danger just so I can talk to a headstone."

Natasha frowned, "But you visit her every year."

"I know, Nat," he kissed her forehead, hands tightening on her hips. "But you and Wanda are more important, it's what my ma would say if she were alive."

"Kiss me," Natasha whispered.

He complied, slanting his lips over hers in a hungry kiss. Natasha gave as good as she got, but Steve was clearly in control. He deepened the kiss, commanding her-dominating her- like no one had before. She moaned, the sound swallowed by his mouth.

He tightened his hold on her, bringing them even closer together. Natasha broke the kiss in order to breathe, but he kept his lips on her skin, distracting her until all she could think about was him.

"I love you," Natasha whispered, breathless.

Steve smiled at her words, "I love you too, more than I ever thought possible. Life without you would have little meaning, Nat. You are my light in the dark."

"No, Steve. You are my light. I never thought I'd feel something like this, yet here we are. You taught me that I could be so much more than what I was; you believed in me like no other has before."

The soldier caressed her cheek, understanding making his eyes bright. He knew her past, knew she'd had other lovers. He knew they'd seen her as little more than a thing to possess or tame. But it wasn't like that with him, and she knew it and thanks to that, she'd gotten the confidence to show him her true self. He couldn't be anymore grateful than he was at that moment.

"Happy birthday, soldier," she whispered, pressing her lips almost chastely against his.

Steve smiled, it was indeed a happy birthday and the best gift was already in his hands, her heart.
