The bell attached to the glass door rang as she entered Flourish & Blotts, a smell of fresh parchment rushed over her. Allie's sucked in the feeling of being in her favorite store on Diagon Alley by far. Glancing over at the shelf of charm books, she quickly made her way over to it, running her finger over the spines of the new, leather bound books. She stopped at a few book titles such as The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection and Death Omens: What to do When the Worst is Coming, pulling them into her hand when she heard the bell above the door ring again.
Snapping her head around to face the abrupt sound, she saw a tall boy with dusty brown hair and crystle like blue eyes enter the bookstore. Immediately recognizing him, she shot her head back to face the opposite way he was. Realizing her shoulder length, sandy blonde hair might give away her nervous presence, she pulled the hood of her mustard yellow cloak over her head, barely brushing her hair line.
The reason she fret over the seemingly harmless boy was because she new him to not be seemingly harmless. Frank Bloom was the rich, arrogant pureblood that taunted her all through her years at Hogwarts, especially during their fifth year. That happened to only be a short year ago and she wasn't thinking he had any instant of changing this year. On their very first day of at the school of witchcraft and wizardry, Frank had been sorted into a very fitting house for his personality, Slytherin. She, however, was sorted into Hufflepuff, the house of friendship and honesty. Before the ceremony, she and Frank seemed to get along quite well, that was until the Sorting Hat yelled Hufflepuff out to the crowd. Afterwards, he teased her about her muggle dad, her house, and her skills in her charms and herbology classes.
Almost running through the shelves of books, she grabbed a few for her own pleasure and the rest for her sixth year classes. She swiftly through the books on the counter at front, hugging the poor wizard to hurry counting her out she owed, pulling her hood forward occasionally when she saw frank out of the corner of her eyes. When he finally told her her amount, she gave him the proper coins and grabbed them before he had the chance to offer her a bag. She turned around quickly and rushed to the door, keeping her gaze on the ground when she felt her body slam into a tall pole, knocking her down with books tumbling to the ground around her. Her yellow hood fell from her head, leaving her hair slightly astray as she looked more towards the pole and realized it had a pair of black shoes on.
"I'm so sorry, I wasn't paying attention to where I was going," she let out a small laugh as she watched him kneel to the ground, helping her pick up the books, "I was actually -er- avoiding someone that walked into the store, that's why I was-" Allie stopped talking when she noticed his brown hair fall over his blue eyes. He looked up to her and her hazel brown eyes connected with his for a mere second before letting out an audible gasp. She pushed herself off the ground and quickly ran out of the store, leaving the books he managed to pick up before her behind.
Why was Frank Bloom, of all people, helping her? He didn't say a word about her being clumsy or getting nervous while apologizing. Allie knew that he knew it was her because of her blonde hair falling from her hood, he also looked up at her when she abruptly rose from the ground.
September first was only a mear day away but the joy she felt about returning to her beloved school was immediately crushed under the fact she had to see Frank again.
Preparing to push her trolly through Platform 9 ¾, she gave her mum and dad a tight hug, not expecting to see them for another three months at the least. Breathing in her mum's scent of apple cridders and her dad's of freshly cut pine, she held back the tear that was threatening to escape from her eyes. Her mum didn't even bother trying to hide the tears so Allie opened her arms for her.
"I love you, dear." her mum whispered into her straight hair. She pulled back again and repeated to them, "I love you guys too."
"Now let her go, Marly, it's almost eleven." her muggle dad said, putting an arm around her magical mum. When she had gone to school, the hat sorted her into Ravenclaw because of her expanse knowledge and wits. When Allie had sent Fidele, her snow white barn owl, home with a letter from her first year telling she got sorted into Hufflepuff, her mom responded in shock, but love nonetheless.
Allie grabbed ahold of her trolly handle and turned to run through the wall of platform nine and ten but froze and instead ran back to give her parents one final hug. After their final goodbyes, she ran through the entrance and over to the side of the tracks, hearing the faint sound of a whistle, coming from the train approaching. She felt her shoulder being tugged into a tight hug.
After the girl let go of her, she realized who it was. Grace Flick, a fellow Hufflepuff whom she had met on her very first day, her best friend in Hogwarts. Grace had long, black hair that reached just above her waist and she had bright green eyes. Pulling the girl back into a hug, Allie let out a sigh of relief. She wasn't alone anymore.
"Be calm there before you knock both of us onto the tracks." Grace said letting out a laugh. Allie joined her, pulling away while tucking a stand of her hair behind her ear. Her eyes ventured past Grace, breaking their long gaze, until they met with a boy she'd never seen before. He was quite tall and had sandy blonde hair like she did, he was a noticeably attractive boy but she didn't let her mind wander to those thoughts, as she did not know this person. For all she knew, he could be in a very serious relationship, she wouldn't be surprised if he was. He didn't look to be much older than Allie herself and she felt a the smallest bit bad for never seeing him before.
She smiled slightly to to him and lifted her hand to bairly wave. The boy's cheeks reddened the slightest bit before he turned back to his group of friends.
"Allie, you're blushing." Grace said, nudging her shoulder the smallest bit with her elbow. Allie turned her focus back to the girl before letting out a nervous laugh.
"Have you seen that boy before?" Allie said, pointing her finger to the tall boy that had once been staring at her. Grace simply shook her head, telling Allie silently that she too didn't know who he was.
Once the train was in motion, a second year from Ravenclaw offered Allie her copy of the Quibbler and Allie promised to return it before the train stopped, ignoring her request to just keep it. After finishing the magazine cover to cover, she informed her cabin of Grace, Adam Jone- Grace's boyfriend- and Mandy Brooks that she was leaving to return it to the rightful owner and that if she hadn't returned soon, she was probably buying some Pumpkin Pasties off the trolly of sweets.
Stepping out of the young Ravenclaw's cabin, she turned to walk back to hers when she felt a hand forcefully grab her wrist. Pivoting on her heel, she saw Frank Bloom standing over her. Trying to take a step back, she winced in pain when his grip tightened.
"Bloom, would you kindly let me go." Allie stated in a softer voice then she expected. His grip only tightened more as he spoke, "Gemma, I do believe I have something of yours." he said, a menacing scowl spread across his face as she shook her head.
"I assure you it can wait, now would you just please let go of me?" she begged slightly. When he made no effort to take his hand away, she tugged her arm back, trying to escape his grip. Her skin was turning a light shade of pink as he strengthened his hold on her once again. A tear of pain fell down her pink cheek as she shot her gaze to meet his.
"Frank, you're hurting me!" she exclaimed, letting her voice reach just above a normal tone. She surprised herself, as she had never used his first name while talking to him and this surprised him too, although his hold on her did not falter. She took her free hand and pushed his shoulder back while she leaned the other way, almost successfully forcing her arm out. A quiet cry of pain escaped her lips. Why wouldn't he let her leave him?
The sound of a door sliding open broke her train of thought. A boy in a Gryffindor robe stepped out into the hall, forcing Frank to break our gaze as he let go of my hand. Allie stubbled back a bit before falling completely to the ground with a loud thump. Frank glared down at her again before turning to storm off. What had gotten into him?
"Are you alright?" the boy said, reaching a hand down to her level, offering to help her off the ground. She nodded yes, taking his hand as he pulled her up, their bodies slightly touching before she took a step back to look at him. I was then she noticed it was the same boy she had saw earlier that day on the platform before boarding the train.
"Sorry, I don't believe I know you," she said, dropping his hand once she realized he still had her hand in his, "I'm Allie Gemma." she added with a quick smile, bairly letting her straight teeth show.
"I'm James Mill." He nodded at her. He took a slow step towards her again and lifted his hand to push a piece of hair that had fallen astray behind her ear. She felt immense heat enter her cheeks, trying to hind the fact she was blushing, she shifted her gaze to the floor. Gryffindors and their courage, she thought to herself.
Taking a step back, she let out a small laugh before turning to walk back to her cabin when his voice called out again, "Allie, I advise you put on your school robes, I expect we'll be arriving soon."
She smiled at the ground before turning to face him again, "Thank you,. See you there James." he simply nodded and she turned to go back to her cabin, completely forgetting the events that occurred only moments before.
Grace and Allie's footsteps echoed in the hall as they ran past the kitchen and to a large pile of barrels. Allie reached to her left and pulled out her wand, a long, maple wood wand with a slightly rounded bottom and a gold sphere sitting at the very end. She tapped it lightly against the middle barrile whispering "Allie" to it, causing it to enlarge and swing open to show a short tunnel, tall enough to fit anyone. She climbed into the barrel and entered the large common room.
It was full of plants and yellow house decorations. There was a long, brown leather couch facing a fireplace with only a dark, wooden coffee table separating it. The set was on top of a mustard yellow rug with a badger running across it. Allie breathed in the scent of freshly baked muffins and fresh pine.
It was past curfew, leaving the room empty and only lit my the soft glow of the low burning fire. They had left the Great Hall after the ceremony and large feast to roam the halls, talking about their summer, filling in the details they left out of their letters for the sake of keeping the length down. When they realized what time it was, they ran down to the basement, trying their best to avoid any professors that happened to be roaming the hall at the time.
"I think we better head to bed." Allie said walking to the small door that headed to the girl's dormitory. Grace just nodded and followed close behind. Once they reached the inside, they found their other roomates asleep and all their belongings neatly put away. With a sigh, Allie climbed into her four poster bed and slowly shut the curtains.
"Goodnight Grace." Allie called out, keeping her voice just above a whisper, as not to wake their fellow sixth years.
"Night Allie." she responded quietly before turning off her gaslamp, plunging the room into darkness.
A soft tapping brought Allie's eyes open with ease, she was a light sleeper. She slowly sat up when the tapping continued, threatening to wake the other girls. She slowly slide the curtains open as she reached for her wand. When she finally found it on the one night stand to the left of her bed, she whispered 'Lumos' and with a flick of her wand, a dim light emitted from the tip. She stepped down, letting her feet carefully touch the cold basement floor. She walked to the window the noise was coming from and gently opened the high up widow. The basement was slightly above the ground, letting natural light shine in during the day. There was a small, brown owl that flew through the window and sat itself on the top of Fidele's cage and it stuck out its leg, offering her a small brown package.
With a curious look plastered on her face, she untied the package and gave the owl one of Fidele's treats she had bought a week before Hogwarts started. When she opened it, she was startled to see three books in it.
The three books she had left in Flourish & Blotts. The three books she had left with Frank Bloom. There was that fell out of the first book she opened. Carefully setting the books on the nightstand, she unfolded the letter.
Since you so rudely didn't let me give you these on the train, not very Hufflepuff like if I might add, I decided to send them to you because they happen to have no use to me. I'm afraid I don't quite fancy romantic stories of a witch and a wizard in love, nor do I need another herbology textbook.
Not quite sincerely
-Frank Bloom
She let her hands drop the noet down onto her lap and let out a shaky breath. Now everything that happened on the train made since, despite the part of him being so forceful with her over dropped book. Regardless, she was shocked. The Frank Bloom she knew would never return something of hers he had. The Frank Bloom she knew would never, right?
