Some Nights
Some nights I stay up, cashing in my bad luck
Some nights I call it a draw.
Some nights I wish that my lips could build a castle
Some nights I wish they'd fall off…
Prologue
I hate James ruddy Potter. Why can't the nosy git just bugger off. The nerve, to ask me out in front of the school, especially after that incident… Sorry if I'm confusing you. I should start from the beginning. My name is Lily Rose Evans. I am a fifteen year old witch currently attending the Hogwarts School For Witchcraft and Wizardry. This will be a diary of my personal thoughts. I enchanted it to record what I'm thinking and doing, so I'll have a lovely record of my every action to give to my… Nevermind, I'm getting off topic again.
At this moment, my best friends Mary McKinnon and Alice Prewett are sitting beside me at a Gryffindor table in the Great Hall of Hogwarts. Mary is a Muggleborn, same as I am, and is a bit taller than me with short brown hair and blue eyes that a significant amount of boys in the school drool over. Alice is way, way, taller than both Mary and I, with long blond hair and pretty, elfin features. She's smart and ambitious, and also happens to have an absolutely adorable boy friend… Sorry, I'll try and stop rambling.
At seeing the expression on my face, Mary said with concern, "What happened? You look so distraught and… Were you crying?"
"It's Severus. We were by the lake, and Potter was bullying him. I tried to help, but Severus... He called me a Mudblood!" I cried, trailing off and bursting into tears.
"Calm down, calm down." soothed Alice. "It must have just slipped out or something. You know the kind of people Slytherins are."
"I thought he would be different." I said. Mary just gave me a strange look. "What?" I asked.
"To be honest, Lily, I thought this kind thing would happen. I mean, look at the people he hangs around. Don't you remember what Mulciber did to me last year?" responded Mary.
"Yeah Mary, your right. I suppose I was expecting this…" I stopped before I finished the sentence. The possibility that Severus had always been like that was too horrible to consider. "Let's not talk about this. It can wait until tomorrow." Sighing, I continued to eat dinner with my friends.
